Description of 1949 Chevrolet Other Pickups Air Ride Suspension 5 window cab |
Here is my 1949 Chevy 5 window pickup with a rebuilt V-8 Chevy 350cid engine and a rebuilt TH350 automatic transmission sitting on an S-10 frame with air bags, ll new brakes and bushings. The interior has been restored as well. It runs, rives, tarts, nd stops like new, ecause it is mostly new and rebuilt. Great driver, ooks cool with lots of exterior patina, 6 years of aging to create the truck before you. This is a very well built hot rod, ot the average, un of the mill car that was purchased as a kit and bolted together. This is a one of a kind original. Simple, et elegant. The outside was done naturally. Blue/Green/Rust...with some of the original pinstripe still visible. A welded spot here and there, nd dents, es it has those too. Some say Rat Rod, ome Hot Rod, treet Rod, etro Rod...more of a GoodFella's Rod than a GoodGuy's Rod. Looks pretty stock, ld and worn on the outside. But underneath is a really good truck. Drives Great, orners well. Like riding on a cushion of air. All the lights and gauges work, xcept the original temperature gauge is non-operational and an indicator light has been installed (the original bulb was too short). The Amp gauge is not operational and a charging light has been installed. Engine is a 350cid Chevy. It is a 4 bolt main block rebuilt with all new parts: .030 inch overbore pistons .010 Rod Bearings .010 Main Bearings 350hp 350 GM grind Camshaft Rebuilt Holley 600 Carburetor Melling Oil Pump Sealed Power Lifters FelPro Gaskets Accell spark plug wire set AC Delco Spark plugs B&N Chrome Air Filter Cleaner Intake & Exhaust Valves Freeze/Frost plugs Aluminum Heavy Duty Radiator All new hoses Thrush Mufflers New exhaust system on resurfaced classic rams horn exhaust manifolds. Looks good, ounds great. (I've been told so.) The transmission is a TH350 automatic three speed fully refurbished with new bushings, iber/steel discs, eals, askets, prags. It also has a 2000 RPM stall new torque converter, o there is no problem with it in traffic. Rear axle is from a 1978 Chevy C10 1/2 ton pickup. Differential gear ratio is 3.08. It has new axle bearings/seals. All new brakes, rums, hoes, ardware, heel cylinders, mergency brake cables, oses, nd steel lines. It stops very well. Custom rear suspension triangulated 4-Link with new urethane bushings all on a POR-15 coated frame. New rear tires are Kumho 235/55R15. The front end and frame are from a 1993 Chevy S-10 pickup. New items on the front end include: New Cooper 225/75R15 tires New Brake Rotors Brake Calipers with new Pads Inner & Outer Tie Rod Ends Upper & Lower Ball Joints Stabilizer bushings Steering bushings Brake Hoses & steel lines Brake Master Cylinder A Frame Bushings Wheel Seals 2 inch wheel spacers Air system and suspension new parts: 4 Helix reinforced 3600 pound air bags Dual Viair 480C compressors 8 AirMaxx valves 7 way Control switch Airmaxx Air Tank with bottom drain 3/8 inch air hoses 120 pound cut-off switch 2 dual air gauges 4 new Monroe Heavy Duty gas shocks Inside there are new headliner, oor panels, ebuilt gauges - speedometer started out at 00000 and works perfectly. Fuel gauge & oil pressure gauge work. No heater, o Air Conditioner. New glove box, ll new green tinted glass, ew window and door rubbers, nd window glass channel. The fuse block has been relocated under the dash. Firewall has been insulated. The original 3 position OffLocked-ON-Off key switch has been refurbished with new keys. New start button New Master Off/On switch for air compressors Refurbished original headlight switch Custom hot rod spoon gas pedal Padded & carpeted floor New air gauges in vintage Stewart Warner gauge panel New Gas tank & sending unit & gas neck fill hoses Flame throwers with two car coils and spark plugs in the chrome fish-tail exhaust tips old time style, hoke the engine to ignite. New baby moon hubcaps all the way around. Custom wood bed floor from a local saw mill made to fit so it has almost all of the original bed space. I wanted to be sure to keep as much of the original bed area as possible for use as a pickup. Haul whatever you want. When the truck is all the way down it is about 1 inch from the pavement. It still rolls without touching anything when all the way down. So, f you have perfectly flat roads you can drive with it all the way down. The idea was to build a truck that looks mostly stock at first look. Then you look closer and see the glass door knob shifter on a shorty chrome shift stick. The air ride suspension system insures you get the ride height you want while looking quite respectable. We have driven it over 2000 miles since the build and everything works as it should.
