Description of 1972 Chevrolet Other P10 |
Awesome all aluminum 1972 Chevy P10 "Shorty". This is a true Shorty with the rare Grumman all aluminum body. This is the last year they made the "snub nose" P10 and will continue to go up in value. If you have been looking for one of these you know how hard they are to find....also you have seen the cost go up and up over the last 2 years. Below is everything I can tell you about this van..... The GOOD: All items listed here were done within the last 1-2 months unless otherwise noted..... Brand New Two-Tone paint. Chrysler Brilliant Black Pearl Metallic and Bright White, Completely Rebuilt Automatic Transmission, ebuilt Brakes, front disc / rear drums) Wheel cylinders, otors, ads etc. All new Wiring, ED Tail Lights and Side Markers, ew Head Lights, rand New Tires (less than 5 miles ago) New Baby Moon Hubcaps, ew (Port-A-Walls) 3" White Walls, une Up, ftermarket Gauges, ew Radiator, lectric Fan, ew Water Pump and lots of other little things too numerous to mention. The previous owner said they rebuilt the engine approximately 5000 miles ago and we have no reason not to believe him....the van runs and drives very well. All the glass is in tact and rubber seals look like new. Rear sliding "serving" window is like new and is a very clean install....not the typical hack job seen on most former ice cream trucks. The BAD: We got this van from Florida and found it has some rust on the front part of the frame. I pounded on it with a hammer and everything seems solid. I think you just need to hit it with a wire wheel and spray some rust-oleum on it and you'll never have to worry about it in this life time. Sheet metal in the front wheel wells has spots where it has rusted through but doesn't cause any issues (see photos). Rear Main Seal needs to be replaced. It leaks about a half cup of oil a week. Our mechanic would charge about $450 to do this repair and we would be happy to have it done for you (at your expense) before shipping it. Other than these items the van is super solid and runs, hifts, rives and stops great. Keep in mind these vans were designed as a multi-stop delivery vehicles and are not geared for freeway speeds. It will cruise along at about 40 Mph and tops out around 45 Mph. You can change out the rear end gearing if you want to drive freeways. At some point in it's life the front end was dented in a minor collision and being aluminum the grill area got a little bent. Our body shop did the best they could but if you look up close you can see it's not perfect. Things it could use: These are things that you don't necessarily need but would be nice. Windshield wipers are missing, teering wheel is old and looks shoddy, hoke cable is not connected....we live in CA and the van starts easily when it's cold...just pump the pedal 3 times, old it down a little and turn the key...it fires right up every time and only takes 20-30 seconds to warm up. If you live in a cold climate having the choke cable connected (it's there and working...just no bracket to connect to carb) might help with cold starts. Original gauges and speedometer don't work. Easy fix is adding a cool aftermarket speedo and gauge set (like Dolphin Gauges etc) Rear door is missing lock mechanism (replacement handles and latches are inexpensive from Mill Supply) and front doors need keys made for the locks. (Any locksmith can cut you some keys to fit them) Inside length from seat to rear door is 7'. Inside height is 66". Inside width is 72". Over all height is 88" and overall length is about 14' Please only bid if you intend to complete the purchase. Make sure your wife, usband, irlfriend, oyfriend, ignificant other, om, ad or grandparents give you their permission before bidding. Keep in mind these vans are too tall to fit into a standard garage.
