Description of 1960 Chevrolet Impala Coupe |
UP FOR AUCTION IS AN ORIGINAL UNRESTORED 1960 CHEVROLET IMPALA SPORT COUPE Vehicle Identification Number: 01837G114321 Decode: 0= 1960 18= Impala V8 37= 2 door sport coupe (bubble top) G= Farmingham, assachusetts build plant 114321=sequence off the build plant Trim Tag: Style: 60-1837 = 1960 Impala V8 2 Door sport coupe (bubble top) Trim: 873 = Red hounds tooth Acc: 37B (unknown) Body: FR 1206 = Farmingham, assachusetts Paint: 900A = Tuxedo black History: This car was originally built in Farmingham, assachusetts in February of 1960 and shipped to Eddington Chevrolet & Cadillac in Bennington, ermont where it was sold new. The original owner, wned the car from 1960-1966. In 1966 it was traded in with 17,675 original miles according to its service records. The car was stored in the basement of the dealership where it was supposed to be freshened up and put back on the lot. It somehow was forgotten about. In 1980 it was officially sold to its second owner with 17,675 original miles. The second owner, wned the car from 1980-2015 (35 years). During that time he replaced the exhaust, epainted the car and installed new wide white wall tires. Over the course of the 35 years he drove the car less than 500 miles. He spent most of his time owning/managing a collision shop. This car has always been stored indoors and well cared for. Upon purchasing the car, quickly realized it was not running correct. I believe it was largely because it had been driven only 500 miles in 35 years, itting most of that time. I sent the car off to a trusted mechanic. I had him service the car from bumper to bumper and got her running like she did in 1960. I purchased the car not long ago with the intention of making it a custom, owever I can't bring myself to do it. A quick side story: without telling my mechanic about the mileage, e had the car on the lift while fixing an exhaust leak among other things. When I picked the car up, he mechanic told me, n his 35 years of working on classic cars, t was one of the most "original" cars that came through his shop. He said,he would bet his paycheck that the odometer (approximately 18,030 miles) was correct. He described the car as very honest and original on the bottom. Exterior: The car was built from the factory with a 900A Tuxedo black exterior (with white insert). The previous owner was a shop owner, herefore he repainted the car in 2011. I recently had the car detailed and the paint is EXTREMLY nice. You can see your reflection in every panel of the car. I would rate it a 9 on a 10 point scale. Probably as nice a paint job you would want without having to worry about trailering a car to shows. All chromes and stainless are ORIGINAL and extremely nice. No pitting or obvious imperfections. This car maintains its ORIGINAL body panels. ORIGINAL fenders, ood, runk, uarters etc. All body panels line up excellent. All the gaps are factory set and look amazing. The car shows extremely well. Perfect for local shows or cruise-ins. Interior: The car maintains its original 873 red and white hounds tooth interior. The door panels are excellent. The carpet and headlinerare original and still pretty nice. The white on the seat inserts are showing some yellowing due to their age. The front seat bottom (fabric insert)has become brittle and separated from the vinyl. I considered replacing it, owever I thought it might take away from the originality of the car. It can be purchased for $75 per yard. Other than that, would not change a thing. All lights and turn signals work perfect. All gauges with exception of the clock, ork like new. The original AM radio still works. Sheet Metal: This car is completely rust free. It was undercoated from the factory which prevented it from rusting. I can say with confidence, t was stored indoors since 1966. The doors "click" shut effortlessly. All windows roll up with ease and line up amazing. The rockers, races and floor pans are original andlook great. I took some photos while the car was on the lift. The bottom of the car is very honest. No thick new undercoating masking poor work, o fiberglass, o patches, o rivets, his is ALL ORIGINAL clean General Motors sheet metal. I have owned nearly 20 classic cars and none have a finer trunk than this 60 Impala. It has all the original cardboard inserts, riginal jack instructions mounted to the trunk lid, riginal style spare, riginal trunk mats, riginal paint on the trunk. This is trunk appears just as it did in 1960. Drivetrain: The car has its original numbers matching283 V8 with two barrel carburetor. It has its original and correct two speed powerglide automatic transmission. The motor and transmission have never been removed from the car. The car was not running right when I got it. I assume it was due to the fact that it sat so long. I had my mechanic redo the exhaust, ervice the fuel system, arburetor, oints, lugs wires, tc. He pretty much went through the whole car. I finally got it running like it should. Overall, his car is amazing. I was going to make it a custom, owever it would be a tragedy to tamper with it. It desperately needs to find an owner that will appreciate its patina and originality. Cars can be restored over and over again, owever will only be original once. It shows well, rives well and now turn key ready to go. The car will be sold with its original owners manual, M output card (broadcast sheet), hipping orders from General Motors to the dealership as well as the bill of sale from the dealership. These are extremely rare items that match only this 1960 Impala. Agreement: The 1960 Chevrolet Impala is being sold "as is, here is." The car is nearly 60 years old, herefore, here are no guarantees or warranties expressed or implied. Bidders are strongly encouraged to ask questions prior to bidding.
