Description of 1951 Chevrolet C/K Pickup 1500 |
1951 Chevy 5 window truck project! This truck is unlike any other hot rod or rat rod out there. I started with a 1951 chevy 5 window cab and narrowed it 12", hopped it 6"in the rear and 7.5"in the front, hen I took a 5" section off the bottom of the cab and redesigned the entire front cowl section. After the cab was put back together I hand built a custom one of a kind frame and bed for the beast. Please read the entire description and look at all the photos of this truck and build progress to see all the work that went into it so far. I'm selling it as a project, nly because after getting it on the road I had issues with the engine. I believe I may have washed the bearings because I lost most of my oil psi all at once. I did pull the distributor and ran the oil pump off a drill and was able to get the psi up so the gauge and pump are working. Basically the only thing this truck needs to be a finished rod is some engine work and possibly some minor adjustments with the steering box and frontend alignment. I just finished this truck and was in the process of fine tuning everything when I had the issues with the engine and I don't want to continue driving it to fine tune everything with low oil psi and risk damaging the engine. If the truck does not sell soon then I will be tearing into the engine to fix it and it will be relisted probably in the spring with a significantly higher reserve. ELECTRICAL- For the wiring harness I started with a Painless Wiring fuseblock. The truck has high beams, ow beams on a dimmer switch, corner turn signals, azard lights, lectric fan, lectric fuel pump, nd a jegs roll control with button on the shifter handle. FRAME- The frame is all custom built. Check out the pics and notice all the braces and gussets throughout the entire frame. It was built to hold up for the life of the truck. SUSPENSION- The suspension is a traditional hot rod setup with a medium arch leaf setup on the rear and a model A spring up front on a ford straight axle. The rear has custom built ladder bars while the front has model a ford wishbones. The rear has tube shocks and the front has some custom handmade friction shocks. DRIVETRAIN- The rearend is a posi track 8.25 rearend out of a 73 plymouth fury. The transmission is a 350 turbo automatic that I ordered new from JEGS. Upon arrival the delivery guy had dropped the trans and it had a couple small cracks in the casing around the bellhousing portion of the trans. I had a local machine shop repair the cracks so there are a couple welds on the trans, ut internally it is still all new. The engine was a fresh built 355 with a polished tunnel ram and edelbrock 2X4 setup. Alternator, ulleys, ater pump, nd high torque mini starter are all new. I ran castrol GTX with Lucus ZDDP Zinc additive in the oil. As I previously stated the engine has lost most oil psi so the truck is being sold as a project because it will need to be diagnosed and dealt with. I havent done anything other than pulling the distributer to run the pump off of a drill to see if the pump and gauge were working. It could be an easy fix for the right person. BRAKES- The truck has new disc brakes, pindles, nd kingpins up front. All came frome speedway motors and utilize the common GM metric disc brake parts. There is a JEGS roll control hooked up to the front brakes. The master cylinder is a new gm master cylinder. The rear brakes are all new drum brakes for the 73 plymouth fury rearend. Please look at all of the photos and read the entire description. The truck is titled as a 1951 chevy. I will consider all reasonable offers, ust ask. The reserve is set for the truck as is, ut I AM WILLING TO SELL WITHOUT THE MOTOR AND TRANS. If you wish to purchase it as a roller without a motor and trans let me know and maybe we can work out a deal. The truck is sold AS IS, HERE IS. No warranties. |
