Description of 1965 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Sedan |
Ask plenty of questions before bidding. Here we have a stalled restoration project, nd a distress sale for me. A complete car with many extra parts big and small. Purchased from the first titled owner who purchased the car from Burt Chevrolet in Thorton Colorado in the late 1960's. A very unusual combination--Not a COPO or RPO but odd nonetheless. Here we have a red 1965 Corvair sedan ordered along with three others for the US Alpine Ski team in late 1964-65. All of these vehicles came equipped with the high performance optional 140 horsepower engine, ositraction rear end, adio delete, added dash and 4 speed close ratio transmission. It has dealer installed seat belts for the front seat passengers. A Colorado car that made its way to Tennessee in the mid-1990's. The engine cranks but I have not heard it run. The car has been throroughly washed since these photos were taken, nd all mud daubers, piders, lgae and moss are gone from the exterior surfaces. The glass cleaned up nicely but is far from show quality. I began the rust neutralization process in the Fall and the sale comes with enough POR15 to cover the rear floors and seat area. The only collision damage I can find is at the rear edge of each rear fender. There is evidence of an ameteur repair done years ago to the rear passenger side and it looks like a repeat damage occurred AFTER that repair was performed. I've replaced the air intake cowl in front of the windshield since the photo was taken with a good used cowl with no rust. The Good: New proper loop molded carpet ready to install. Halogen high beam headlights, ew high beam dipswitch, wo dashboards and gloveboxes (couldn't decide on silver or black). All of the gauges, ights, orns and dome lamp work. The engine cranks with a brand new ignition key. Two new proper repro sideview mirrors. The Bad: This car was parked outside since 1996. Assume a fair share of metal replacement on both rear quarters and most definitely the front left and right footwells. Clarks and many other vendors offer metal panels for late model Corvairs for very little money. You will need to source both exhaust U pipes and proper 140 Corsa mufflers. When you get the car running, t will most likely dispel all nearby fauna and possibly even some flora. The neighbors will want you to install the exhaust before running the car. Bonuses: The primary carbs were rebuilt the last time this car was registered and they look like they are ready to go as is. I also have a fresh battery in this car so I can show you the electrical system operates as Chevrolet intended. Extra steering box and column, xtra front bumper, ive driver-quality Monza wheelcovers riding on proper 13" wheels and serviceable Michelin X tires in the proper size. You can roll the car on these tires, ut I would not recommend towing for hundreds of miles on these four wheels. The spare tire in the trunk appears to be the ORIGINAL SPARE, Firestone gum-dipped" tire and holds air!!! I have replaced the original padded dash with a dash cap in the proper color. Also replaced front arm rests, dded halogen headlights, nd went through the electrical system to confirm there are no open shorts. I have no way to know if the gas gauge works, s I would assume the tank will need to be flushed or replaced to actually drive the car. The last three photos show what I hoped to do with the car. Alas, have not the time or resources to do this car justice. You must arrange transport, referably with a flatbed and winch as it is parked at the base of a steep driveway. For an additonal charge, will toss you the custom towbar which affixes to the holes of the front bumper brackets. I am located 20 minutes south of Nashville and easily accessed by both Interstate 65 and Interstate 24. Please do not bid if you do not know these cars or expect to drive off in the car with a little turning of a wrench! |
