Truck is now in Cooperstown. New York. 13326 so please keep that in mind if you are calling from the West Coast. This is a nice solid truck I brought home here to New York from Tehachapi. California a few months ago. (I found it on Craigslist. I have family in California). I had been looking for a 4x4 for a long time. but when I saw this truck I decided to buy it. mainly because so much of it was original and untouched. We just don't have trucks like this in NY. Even the poor quality of the paint did not deter me because I could see there was nothing being hidden. Shortly thereafter I found a nice 4x4 and bought it but by then I had done quite a bit of general required maintenance on this truck. and I am happy with the 4x4. so this truck is now up for sale. This is my first time selling a vehicle on EBay so I hope you can be patient with me. I will describe this truck as accurately as possible. but I ask that you call me with any questions (George at 607-547-2903. Eastern time) so that you can be happy while bidding and also be happy after you own the truck. I love this generation of GM trucks and this is the 26th one I have owned since I first bought one back in 1984. 30 years ago. I know alot about these trucks but do not claim to know everything. but I am here to help you get a clear picture of this truck. I have seen a lot of these trucks. so I know where to look to find rust. or expect rust. but this just does not have rust in any of the usual places. The only place there is any corrosion damage is at the front right fender where battery acid leaked down onto the fender. What you see is what you get and what you see is an unrestored truck that has not been messed with or altered to any great degree. Here is what I know:1972 Chevy Cheyenne 20. 3/4 ton (Please look at the photo of the SPID Glovebox label for details)PS. PB. AC (not working. but heater blows hot). Original Tilt Steering. Original steering wheel is not full of cracks. Original steel wheels. Original Camper SS mirrors. Original Tach has been removed from the dash. I don't know why. It came to me that way. Originally a two-battery truck but now has only one NEW BATTERY. Very heavy duty rear springs. 4. 11 rear end (fresh lube job and gasket). From the condition of the bed and the Camper options this appears to have had a camper in the bed. thus protecting the bed from very much damage from denting. The bed has extra holes from where I removed the two "saddle tanks" that were no longer connected to the fuel system. (Interior fuel tank works fine). Bed floor has no rust. NO RUST inside the cab floor ( the photo just shows dirt but NO RUST underneath the original carpet and sound deadening material. NO RUST in cab corners or rockers. or cab mounting brackets. NO RUST in bed floor back by the tailgate where it usually shows up first. Build date on door: "2/ 72"Build date on valve cover label: "February 1972"Built in Freemont. California. Paint: in places the original paint shows to be very worn and aged but still intact. but up around the hood and other places up front someone clearly tried to touch up the paint with the incorrect color of green. and in some places the white appears to have been touched up a long time ago with a spray can. TRJ stamped on engine block identifies this motor as being correct for a "1972. c-20. conventional cab". NOTE ABOUT PHOTOS: The paint you see under the doors and on rockers is original. The rust you see is only surface rust. This metal is very solid!Everything you see in the photos is just the way the truck came to me. and I have made no changes other than to have some maintenance work done on it. RECENT MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR:Complete tune-up: points. resistor. NEW plugs. NEW wires. NEW battery. and air filter. Replace rear main seal on automatic transmission. and change fluid and filter. NEW carrier bearing on drive shaft. NEW master brake cylinder. NEW rear brake cylinders. NEW fluid in rear end. Original Quadrajet Carb. was rebuilt. Rear bumper. had been removed. but it came with the truck so I had a welder make brackets and put it back on. Folks seem to want to know specifics about this engine. Everything indicates this is a numbers matching original engine. and the research pretty much proves it. You want to know if odometer is showing correct miles. and also if this is the original engine. I want to know the same thing too. so here is what I can find out: Block casting number is 3970010. Research tells me this number was used to identify 350 engine blocks from 1969-1979 (in Trucks. Cars. and Corvettes). To narrow it down even further I researched the Engine ID Code Number. with its Engine Suffix Code. This is stamped on the block at the front of the engine on the day it was made. It is NOT a casting number. This Code reads "V0204TRJ". "V" means it was made in the Flint Engine Plant. "0204" means it was made February 4. "TRJ" is the Engine Suffix Code and research tells us this specifically identifies the motor as being made as follows: "1972. 350 engine. truck conventional cab. C-20 (3/4 ton) . Automatic transmission". Don't ask me to explain it. I just looked it up from a list of codes more than 70 pages long put out by GM. (And this also means this engine most likely has a 4-bolt main because that is what they put into 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks). This all indicates to me that this is a "numbers matching" original 350 engine made for this exact C20 with AT. I will just venture a guess that the mileage on the odometer is correct. Here is why (and this is just my best guess): If the odometer had actually "turned over" then the 98. 12 would mean it actually has 198. 12. While it is not impossible for a 350 of this vintage to have 198. 12 miles it is highly unlikely. It is more likely that as a truck used for mounting a Camper in. the truck did not see daily use and COULD have less than 100. 00 on it. The engine runs clean with no smoking indicating this motor is far from worn out. This is just MY BEST GUESS. Since I did not own the truck when new I can only guess. On Jan-04-15 at 16:19:31 PST. seller added the following information:Folks have asked about the "Blue vinyl custom interior" along with info on VIN numbers. so here is a response I sent to a few interested Ebayers. I have also added photos to help document what I can see. Thanks. George. "I'll get photos of the door pillar that show it is original. with original rivets. so you can see the cab matches the photo of the VIN on the glove box. Also photos of door sticker with VIN. I am not familiar with VIN location on the frame. but if you tell me where to find it I will photo it. NOTE: Everything on interior is parchment incl. seatbelts and their floor covers. (I doubt they were ever blue). The previous owner in California was knowledgeable about these trucks and searched hard to find anything blue and actually showed me that the headliner was the only thing he could find that was originally blue (see added photo). but that someone had very carefully painted over it with the same medium olive green as the rest of the interior. It is so well done that I wonder if it was something the dealer would have done because I have never seen a medium olive green truck with blue seats. etc. It is the only thing on this truck that is/was blue. On the other hand I have often seen the parchment combination with black steering wheel (this one has NO cracks which leads me to believe the truck was sheltered from the sun) and black dash pad. It is also interesting to note the tilt steering and column is also black (to go along with the black steering wheel) whereas blue trimmed trucks would have more likely had the blue steering wheel. I am guessing that the original tach was taken out by a previous owner who most likely also "Stole" the Cheyenne woodgrain off the door panels. I have seen quite a few tachs in trucks equipped with camper equipment. and the only trucks I have seen with two batteries were those with camper options such as the extra heavy springs and "West Coast" exterior door mirrors. so I am guessing this truck was set up this way for a reason. I guess you know I am not trying to "pass something off". but instead I am trying to explain what I see. I think you make some valid points and I agree that some things remain a mystery. "
