Description of 1969 Chevrolet Camaro |
1969 Pro Street Camaro I’ve owned this 1969 Camaro since 2003. I purchased it as an ex-NHRA race car that had been sitting for 30 years in storage. The car was purchased new in early 1970 and driven for about a year before being turned into a drag car. When I bought it, he car had 4,325 miles on the odometer, 496 Big Block, urbo 400 and a Dana 60 rear with 4.88 Gears. The car is back-halved, ully tubbed and has a 12 point, hrome moly roll cage installed. It always passed certification while being raced. When I purchased it, he car also had massive drum brakes all around. It was raced in NHRA for the 1971-1973 seasons. I re-did the car, ainted it dark gray with Yenko stripes, nstalled a brand new Reher Morrison 540 Big Block making 865HP, dded a 500HP Shot of nitrous, ew TCI Turbo 400 with a trans-brake and an 8”- 5500rpm stall speed converter and changed the Dana 60 gears from 4.88 to 4.10. I added Wilwood disk brakes as well as electronics. I raced the car for about 3 years, efore letting it sit in my garage for another 4 years untouched. The car ran 8.86 seconds at 161MPH in the 1/4 mile. It was a wild ride, hat left extremely violently, specially with the 500HP nitrous shot set to 80% on the computer at launch. (See picture below) In early 2010 I got sick of looking at this Camaro just sitting in my shop gathering dust, o I decided to convert it to a street car. I pulled the motor over the July 4th weekend in 2010 and sent it to Scott Shafiroff to fully rebuild the engine and make it work on the street. Below are the very basic details of what was changed and added: 1. Engine completely rebuilt. Replaced 15:1 compression pistons with 10.5:1,Manley H-Beam 4340 Steel Rods w/ARP 2000 Bolts, ellfire Rings (For direct port NOS), ometic MLS (Multi Layered Steel) Head Gaskets, eplaced the solid roller with a hydraulic roller cam and lifters, alve job and replaced the valve springs to match the new cam. Installed a new dual plane intake manifold, direct port NOS System and an 850CFM Quick Fuel Carb, bviously change the bearings, askets, tc. The motor dynoed at 688HP. 2. I replaced the TCI Turbo 400 with a brand new GM 4L85e Supermatic, speed automatic transmissions and installed a 3200 stall speed lock up converter with an anti-ballooning plate. There is also a PCS transmission controllermodule in the center console. No laptop is required to change the transmission tuning. (Line pressure, hift points, ock-up, tc.) 3. New Wilwood Brakes – 6 Piston front with large drilled and slotted rotors and 4 piston rear. New axles, arrier and bearings in the Dana 60 rear end. New Line-Lock System controlled from TCI Shifter. 4. New custom rear suspension designed by Mike Adams. Custom ladder bar design without the locator (panhard bar) . It has new QA1 dual adjustable coil-over shocks and springs. It also has a custom anti-roll bar above the rear. 5. New front suspension – Upper and lower control arms, A1 coil-over shocks and springs and 2” lowered spindles. 6. New Wheels and tires - Billet Specialties Bonneville G’s. 18X15 on rear and 18X8 on front. Tires are MT Sportsman SR 31X18X18 and Nitto 555R 245/35/18 for the front. 7. Vintage Air – Ice Cold A/C (Gen 4 System) 8. Electronics Include: MSD Ignition, CS Transmission Controller, lpine Stereo (with Sirius and Bluetooth – phone integrated), MP and Speakers. The car has a DC Power 180 AMP Billet Alternator and Dual Optima Batteries in the trunk. The parts list for this build is so extensive; I cannot list it all here, ut will be happy to go over it with all interested and serious bidders. If you have any specific questions, lease feel free to ask. The car can be seen by appointment on short notice. Please take the time to look through all of the car and build pictures. There is an extensive amount of carbon fiber on the car, s you will see in the pictures. It also has stretched wheel well opening, iberglass quarter panels on the car.
