Description of 1966 Chevrolet Corvair |
There aren’t too many 60s convertibles in this kind of unrestored condition out there. Corvair convertibles are definitely undervalued, ith nowhere to go but up...this one is no exception. This 66 drives very well. She glides along the backroads, ugging corners and belting a low tone from the muffler. She looks great, ith a recent respray and a very nice, ostly original interior. Does well in town too. I probably shouldn’t be selling, ut I have two complete restoration projects in pieces and need to make garage space and time. If she could be kept outside (she’s always garaged), ’d keep her without hesitation. But, refuse to park her outside to waste away. Rear engined, ir cooled, win carbed, onza 110. Power convertible top, ecently replaced and in great condition (raises and lowers without concern). Parade boot. New carpet a few years ago (looks new still, ront covered by floor mats). Very good original seats and door panels. Very good dash. Seatbelts for all four corners. Intact heat system…blower even blows! Original AM radio with dealer added FM transmitter. Very nice tires. Paint resprayed ~ 5 years ago in the original blue ($1500 job, ave receipt). No bondo known. The only known rust spots are visible, s the respray was only exterior panels. Engine rebuilt (new parts) at the same time by a well known North Carolina based Corvair guy. New fuel tank, oo. New exhaust too, till in great shape. Receipts included. Tons of work done to keep her on the road. She does mark her territory from time to time (a small circle of oil on the cardboard below her after sitting over winter), ut no significant leaks. Recent tune up, ebuilt carbs, ew fuel pump…lots of things. Automatic transmission shifts and pulls smoothly. No known mechanical issues. Like most Corvairs I've seen, ot starts after sitting on a 100 degree day can take about 15 seconds of turning over and be met with a puff of smoke. Otherwise, tarts quickly and runs beautifully with no smoke or negative noise. We took her out today and I forgot just how quiet (other than an excellent exhaust note) and smooth she really is. Thanks to my, hem, hotography skills, he looks much better in person than in the photos...especially the interior. Don’t believe me? Don’t believe me. Come see for yourself. I have records as well as the original dealer bag with books. Not only that, ut there are enough spares in boxes (new parts) to keep her on the road for years to come, s I had planned. I’ve had her a few years, ut thought originally I would keep her forever, o bought things like a new distributor while they were still available. I bought her from a very good friend who had her for years before that, o I know the history. All electrics work, ncluding signals, ights, ven reverse lights. All lenses good. Several sets of keys. I don’t know what else to say. Wipers even work. Now, ou’re nuts to drive her in the rain, ut if you choose to, ou’ll have a clean windscreen. And hopefully, ou’ll at least put the top up. Worst flaws are a pull to the right under hard braking (as in, lam the brakes), small rust hole in the center of the trunk, round the weep hole, nd a bit of rust in the driver's door sill. Nothing scary. Also, assenger rear window needs a little help rolling up (goes up and down fine, ut needs to be guided to keep it from binding). Some of the old rubber body seals are, ell, ld rubber body seals. So, hey could be replaced. I am happy to provide any requested photographs and would prefer that any potential bidders (or their mechanics) inspect the car in person before bidding. Send a message through eBay if you would like to make arrangements.
