Description of 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport

Up for auction is our 67 Chevelle SS 396 4-speed. This car has a neat history…….It was purchased new in Torrington, Wyoming at Covello Chevrolet Co. and stayed in that area for over 48 years. It was purchased in late 2015 from a 102 year old woman who’s late husband was the original owner. He put 87,000 miles on the car until it was parked in the garage in 1986 (the 87’ Wyoming license plates are still on the car), where it sat and never moved again until the family decided to part with it. When he parked the car, the gas tank and carburetor were run dry to preserve them. We have photo documentation of the car coming out after its 29 year hibernation with the 102 year old woman standing next to the car, it was covered in dust and grime and on four flat tires.

Upon getting it, all fluids were flushed, rubber fuel lines replaced, fresh gas and a new battery. The car started right up and truly came back to life. As amazing as it sounds, this car runs and drives well with the exception of a slightly noisy water pump bearing. I would not say its ready to be driven daily, but it’s very close to being able to do that.

This is a REAL 138 code SS with its original trim tag decoding as; 4-speed transmission, tinted glass, seat belts and factory 8 track player with four speaker option. It is a factory front bench seat car too! The engine compartment is very original and untouched. Unfortunately, in ‘69 the original 396/325hp block was replaced, but the heads, intake, exhaust manifolds, distributor, alternator, transmission and 12 bolt rear end are all original to the car and are matching numbers. The engine runs great and starts right up every time, no strange noises and no oil leaks. The transmission (which retains its original GM shifter) shifts very smooth and feels great. Clutch is very smooth. Rear end is quiet and fine. The brakes work great and seem good (to drive daily, I would check wheel cylinders etc. although the don’t leak, their really old). The ride is quiet and smooth. The suspension is in nice condition and even retains all four of its original spiral shocks.

The undercarriage is very nice and rust free. The frame is 100% rust free. The body is really nice and is mostly original paint in Granada Gold showing nice patina. No rust on the front fenders, rocker panels, bottoms of the doors are nice and rear quarters are good around the wheel wells. There is some lite rust back by the tail light seams at the very end of the quarters above the bumpers. The floors are really nice and solid, the trunk floor does have rust where moisture sat beneath the trunk mat. There is a hole about the size of your thumb, the rest is just pitted. Some would say to repair it while others would want a new trunk floor. I would just repair it, as it looks good from underneath. Everything else on this car is original and very nice.

The interior is beautiful. The dash is all original with no cracks on the dash pad. The gauges are working show very lite patina along with the headliner. Beautiful original door panels. The seats and carpet have been replaced with correct original style materials and look really nice. Overall, the interior is very impressive. All of the glass is nice with no cracks. All of the stainless trim and bright work are nice with no pitting or major dents etc.

This car left the factory with 14” steel wheels and SS hubcaps which were on the car when it was discovered, their included with the car. I changed the wheels to 15” GM rallys and redline Wide Ovals, If the new owner wants a credit on the final price, I will put the originals back on and keep my rallys and red lines. This car also retains most of its original exhaust system all the back to the axle, one tail pipe was replaced back in the day. It also has all four of its T-3 head light bulbs that all work.

If you are a purest looking for a REAL 67 Big Block SS Chevelle, that has never been messed with and is mostly all original, then this is the car for you. I would consider this car a SURVIVOR and it’s really neat how it is now, or it would be a good candidate for a full restoration. So many Chevelles have been cloned into SS’s and big blocks with 4-speeds and are made of Re-Pop parts that’s is nice to see one that untouched original. The title is a current Colorado title in my name. Please call with questions at 303 475-4544. I have been an abay member since 2000 and have 100% feedback, so please feel comfortable bidding, knowing I have presented the car to the best of my ability. REMEMBER, THEIR ONLY ORIGINAL ONCE.
