Description of 1968 Chevrolet Camaro

There's definitely an elusive combination that makes some cars great and leaves other cars wanting. This 1968 Camaro nails it, ranging from a great color combination to a sweet-running small block punched out to 383 cubes, to niceties like ice cold A/C that make it a pleasure to drive. Nothing exotic, just solid fundamentals that make for a first-class machine.Early F-bodies always look great in dark colors, and this slick SS tribute with its electric blue paint and pearl black Z/28 stripes has a street fighter look that's made all the more exceptional with its high-quality shine. There's a long list of upgrades under the skin, but your first impression is of a car that's had a lot of time and effort invested in the final product. The doors fit neatly, the cowl induction hood sits flush, and the steel underneath is worthy of the glossy finish. Two stage urethane gives it a shine so deep you feel like you can dip your fingers in it, and thanks to expert care since it was completed, it shows almost no signs of use. SS badges are practically standard equipment on any Camaro restoration these days, but this car also includes other correct elements like the single-element taillights, Bowtie-logo gas cap, and, of course, the ducktail spoiler. It sure looks the part, right down to the shiny bumpers fore and aft which look quite good against the slick blue paint job.The black interior has a handsome, upscale look thanks to a set of luxurious-looking seat covers on the original bucket seats. Instead of feeling claustrophobic and cramped, this Camaro feels purposeful and committed thanks to a fat 4-spoke steering wheel and a center console. Camaro fans will be pleased to see that this is a factory A/C car, which imparts a certain deluxe feel that goes with the faux walnut applique on the center stack. A full set of Auto Meter Ultra Lite gauges have been stuffed into the original instrument panel, a clean look that's also very functional. A Panasonic AM/FM/CD stereo head unit is a great addition to the car that still sounds good, and those are the controls for the Gear Vendors overdrive unit right underneath. Carpets, door panels, and the headliner are in similarly good condition and are correct replacements for the original equipment. The trunk is basic but clean, with spatter finish paint to make it look correct. The 383 cubic inch V8 is a familiar sight under the hoods of Camaros, but not many are as musclebound as this. 383s love to rev and bring big block levels of torque to the party, making this car a real weapon on the street. Chrome pieces add a little flash on top, but for the most part, it's functional rather than pretty, and that's OK with us. An aluminum intake manifold and Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor mean that throttle response is instant, and they built it to be reliable, including the massive aluminum radiator up front, a new alternator to power the dual electric fans, and lots of new wiring. Long-tube headers flow into a custom Flowmaster dual exhaust system, and subframe connectors have been added to reinforce the chassis. The aforementioned Gear Vendors overdrive unit is bolted to a TH350 3-speed automatic, and it really makes cruising on the highway effortless. The suspension, brakes, and rear axles are all new, and it sits on a set of 17-inch REV wheels with 235/45/17 front and 275/40/17 rear Yokohama radials.Very nicely finished and powerful enough to need all that rubber, this slick '68 Camaro gets the details right to create a great cruiser for the upcoming season.
