Description of 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS, Malibu, Super Sport, Concourse |
Start talking muscle cars and the second generation Chevelle is almost always directly referenced. Offered in trim levels ranging from stripped economy champ to luxury pavement pounder, Chevrolet produced Chevelle’s that were capable of satisfying nearly every buyer and every wallet. That legacy of universal appeal has continued throughout the last 50 years, giving fans and enthusiasts the parts and inspiration to create their own unique hot rods. Take this ’72 454 LS5 Super Sport for example. Restored with only top shelf products the drivetrain and interior components were professionally reconditioned during an extensive, ground-up restoration, this tastefully rebuilt Chevy turns a traditionally appealing platform into a time machine bringing you back to the summer of 1972 . If you’re ready to hit the streets in a fresh, head-turning muscle car, check out this stunning 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 LS5! Originally manufactured in Arlington, Texas this solid SS 454 spent most of its life roaming The Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. Recently, within the last 10 years the car underwent a detailed, rotisserie restoration that involved widespread refurbishment of every panel. Once countless hours were spent making sure the mix of OEM sheet metal was aligned to better-than-factory fit, bright Cranberry Red base was applied with black rally stripes, covered in PPG clear. Presently, this coupe carries an exceptionally clean finish on top of a high quality restoration that’s simply stunning. An obviously solid road warrior and one of the most remarkable rides to ever hit the streets, this red-hot Chevy is a picturesque magazine centerfold that’s just waiting to be discovered. At the front of its body, halogen headlights float between a black grille, bright parking lamps and a fresh chrome bumper. At the top of that grille, a familiar cowl induction hood founds new glass beneath polished stainless trim and OEM fitted sport mirrors. At the sides of the lower fenders, “SS” emblems and “454” scripts hint at the true nature of the big block’s personality, while traditional door handles perfectly complement straight fender lips and factory-spec marker lamps. And at the back of the car, a second fresh bumper hangs traditional taillights between a third “SS” emblem and bright stainless exhaust tips Glance under this Chevelle’s sculpted hood and you’ll find a 454 cubic inch LS5 big block V8 that boost an estimated 270+ horsepower. At the top of the mill, the stock air cleaner feeds oxygen to a 750cfm Demon 4-barrel that’s centered on an Edelbrock intake. That air/fuel mixture travels into stock heads, which hang cast Chevrolet-branded valve covers over forged rods, forged pistons, a forged crank with a fully balanced rotating assembly. At the bottom of those heads, coated Hooker Competition headers send spent gases into high performance, true-dual pipes. At the top rear section of the manifold, an aftermarket HEI distributor shoots spark through 8mm ignition wires. In front of those wires, an attractive Stock pulley system spins a longneck casted water pump between a Ac Delco alternator and stock OEM power steering components. In front of those components, a brass-cored radiator makes good use of the stock 7 blade clutch fan. Aesthetically, the spotless engine bay’s selective combination of dim and vivid paint creates an alluring palette that attracts gearheads in the same manner flowers attract bees. And everything, from the OEM grade 8 bolts and the stock AC Delco brake booster to the OE fuel lines and OE spec radiator support, has been professionally installed and thoughtfully detailed. What good would a killer big block engine be without a tough drivetrain and solid suspension to back it up? Behind the car’s thundering 454, a rugged Muncie M22 4-speed twists between a heavy duty clutch and proven true balanced steel driveshaft. Torque flows to a familiar GM 12-bolt that’s fitted with 3.55 gears, a stock GM posi-traction differential, That road-ready drivetrain rolls on a fully rebuilt double A-arm/4-bar chassis, which features Stock OEM control arms, sway bars and new reproduction shocks. Spent gases escape through 2.5-inch exhaust, which, thanks to turbo Street mufflers sound simply amazing. At the corners of the car, fully restored 5 spoke GM rally wheels wrapped in new BFG white letter radial tires. Naturally, this Super Sport’s comfortable interior is a masterful blend of both form and function. The Vinyl-wrapped Bench seat is restoration-fresh attire that, along with factory door panels, present clean and crisp. Directly adjacent of the bench seat an etched 4 speed shifter ball which tops a long Muncie shifter. Below that shifter, rich carpet floats monochromatic, “SS” branded floor mats under stock kick panels and foot pedals. At the front of that carpet, an “SS” branded dash frames a stock AM head unit and OEM Classic Dash instrument panel incasing all featured gauges. In front of the driver, a comfort grip SS embossed steering wheel spins a thick wrapped rim around a stock tilt column with a reverse lock out ignition switch. And behind the passengers, a restoration-fresh trunk features weather-free spatter paint. With its awesome motor, incredible body and pristine interior, this killer Chevelle SS 454 LS5 is an attractive, well-done muscle car. And best of all, being a late second generation Chevelle, its likeness isn’t nearly as prevalent as Chevy’s more famous, and too often duplicated, ’66-’70 offerings. If you’re in the market for a no excuses true SS 454 LS5 Chevelle with an unbeatable combination of style and performance, this Chevy is right for you!
