Description of 1964 Chevrolet Corvair Spyder |
This is a NO RESERVE auction. It will sell for whatever the last bidder bids, so bid accordingly! As the top of the line Corvair, with a four speed manual transmission and a 150hp turbocharged, rear mounted, air cooled engine, the turbocharged spyder is an alluring mid-century American sports car that was the competitive threat behind the development of Ford Mustang. The turbo-charger technology was developed by Chevrolet Engineering in competition with the fuel injector system that was introduced on the Corvette. Only 2% of Corvairs were produced with the turbo engine. The 1964 vintage is very desirable because it offered the larger 164 cubic inch displacement engine and the improved transverse leaf spring rear suspension. The convertible body structure is considerably stiffer than the second generation convertible introduced in 1965. From the south, this car is an original rust free example in good driver quality operating condition. One of earliest of the 4,761 Spyder convertibles produced, it was built in August, 1963 at the Willow Run assembly plant. The floor pans, trunk floor, and battery pan are in good original condition. It is equipped with the manual top, and the original AM radio still operates, however the speaker needs replacement. It has a professionally installed new top in 2015, and recent engine service including new forged pistons and piston rings. It has been upgraded with an alternator for improved charging performance. It has an older repaint, which has numerous blemishes and defects. It does have evidence of minor body repairs on the right rear wheel lip, and there is a minor dent on the front fender. There are several sites of repaired minor surface rust on the paint surface. Two of the four wheel covers have the original spyder logo. There is a rechromed rear bumper that goes with the car. The tachometer functions only intermittently, but the other gauges work. I have owned this Spyder for a year, and must now sell because I am relocating out of state and cannot take it with me. I purchased it from a local dealer and the title had a Florida address; otherwise, the car’s prior history is unknown. It is a 52 year old car, and while I have tried to represent its condition fairly, it is not a perfect car and there is no substitute for personal inspection. To ask questions or discuss details about the car, please call me at 248 270 8299. The car is for sale locally, and I reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time. Please call prior to bidding if you have feedback less than 10. $500 paypal deposit must be paid within 48 hours of auction close. Balance to be paid by wire transfer or cashier’s check, and transaction must be completed within 10 days of auction close. Buyer is responsible for pickup. Please do not bid if you do not have available funds, permission from your wife, expectation to inspect after close of the auction, or do not otherwise fully intend to carry through with the purchase.
