Description of 1959 Chevrolet El Camino |
This car has been in my possession for 14 years. It was painted ( 12 years ago ), upholstered ( 12 years ago ), engine swapped ( 4 years ago ), suspension swapped front and rear ( 4 years ago ), with all components rebuilt, or new as necessary. This car is a driver that thinks it is a Corvette. It is garage kept and only driven in California weather, which seldom offers a rainy day, when it stays inside. The previous owner treated the car with the same respect. It was frame off while work was being done for the past 3 years. I wanted to make this El Camino different from most. Transformation was the install of C-4 Corvette front and rear suspension, with new ball joints and tie rod ends, with rotors turned and new pads. 4 wheel alignment when completed. 6 liter LS power up front. 4 speed automatic behind. It has been on the road for the past 6 months and everything is in working order. I started with a minimum rust vehicle that wasdrive-ableand repaired all rust which was entirely in and around wheel- wells.Prior to my owning the car the 2 foot-wells behind the drivers seat were patched. The under side was under coated at some point. There is a row of paint bubbles under the driver side rear fender that can be felt but are not weak or indicating any reason for repair. There is a chip in the front windshield that was epoxy filled some 11 years ago so it would not grow into a crack, also has 4" scrape from wiper that could probably be taken out, in my opinion. The only other negative is the cassette player is not working and I am leaving the choice of a new disc player to the new owner as I am not planning long trips, just want to sell this car and totally enjoy my 57 rag top. The following is a list of new and rebuilt items installed:6 liter engine with around 40,000 miles/ new low profile Camaro oil pan. ( no metal in old one when removed ), new 60 psi oil pump ( no visible wear and tear inside timing cover ) new MAP, CAM, TEMP sensors, new alternator, hoses, harness ( supplied by Turnkey Products ). Motor is strong and 360 hp in this 3600 lb car works really well not pulling around the 9000 lb truck it was born with. LS motor is a 2007 truck motor, 360 hp, 360 ft lbs. torque as learned from my research. Transmission is rebuilt 4L60E. New Lokar floor shifter/ B&M handle.Radiator is new 3 row aluminum.New 16 gal. gas tankNew "Painless" wiring.New battery.New heater core.New dualdiaphragmpower brake booster/appropriate master cylinder.Power rack and pinion ( stock C-4 Corvette).New 2 1/2" exhaust with 24" "Smitty" mufflers and 24"resonatorsout the back.New external fuel pump with new 16 gallon gas tank.New 3/8 " gas lines and new brake lines.New carpet this year.New electronic converter for cable driven stock speedometer.New electronic converter for tachometer.New electronic converter for varying ohm difference between gas tank and Stewart Warner gauge.Bumpersre-chromed11 years ago.Bed was Rhino lined 7 years ago.Camaro Iroc wheels are 17" that still look good and hold air. Tires have less than 1000 miles on rears and about 4000 on front. The scallops are a darker red with gold pearl overlay. The dash is black with a silver overlay. This car will stand tall at any car gathering and will blow the doors off most. The tailgate has minor metal decaying ( not really rust ) in corners seen when opened. The body is straight with minimal chips from driving. The stainless on bed has some dents all of which can be repaired. EVERYTHING works except tape deck. I would drive this car anywhere with no reservations. I have been building cars for over 30 years and would be glad to send pictures of a few of my finer products as I have not done anything with the old snapshots. I have built frames from scratch and tweaked many suspensions. My biggest reward was being invited to Blacky Gegians Autorama a few years back with my custom 48 Hudson. Send your representative or come check this El Camino out for yourself but either way feel at ease, I have represented this car to the best of my ability. Safety has always been my first concern and those who have test driven this car locally agree the proof is in the driving. Ask for additional info or pictures or call. Do not be afraid to send me a realistic offer but stand by it and don't be insulting. As per all vehicles of this age there is no warranty expressed or implied as I have only owned the car 14 years of it's life. The parts I used were original GM or aftermarket parts.
