Description of 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS |
1968 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 NO RESERVE Or Buy now for $54,900 L-78 Matching Numbers If you are looking for the “best of the best” this 1968 Chevelle SS is it. A real Chevelle SS, L-78 matching numbers, 396/375 HP. This collectible has been recently restored, with under 50 miles since restoration, including new paint in the original Butternut yellow finish over the Black imitation leather interior. The 92,000 original miles on this classic can be validated by the listing on the current title. A quick check of the Vin number shows that this Chevelle has always been destined to be a SS396, two-door sport coupe. The Vin number decodes as follows: 1 = Chevrolet 38 = SS396 37 = Sport Coupe 8 = 1968 A = Atlanta 111160 = Production Sequence Number The original 396 Big Block has been gone through with meticulous detail. Although listed at 375 HP the reviews of the day rated it at 425hp like the 1965 L-78 Corvette with the same specs. The performance on this vehicle will validate the reviews of the day. The motor is the original born with this Chevelle confirmed by the vin stamp on the engine pad. Also stamped on the engine you will find the stamp T0927EG. Identifying the engine as: T = Tonawanda 09 = September 27 = 27th day of the month EG = 375HP special high performance, 4 speed manual The four speed transmission casting numbers 3295660 demonstrates that it was built for this 1968 Chevelle SS396. Combine that with the 12 bolt differential and this car is set up just the same as it left the factory. In 1968 the Chevrolet Chevelle received an all new design with a distinctly sculpted body with tapered front fenders, a long hood with a short deck profile and a high rear-quarter “kick-up”. About Factory Correct Cars offered by BlueChip Motorcars BlueChip Motorcars periodically offers classic cars that may be listed as Factory Correct, or Numbers Matching. Because there are many opinions about the term(s) used to describe these types of listings, allow us to explain how BlueChip Motorcars comes to that assessment. As you may know, depending on the source, the term “matching numbers, or factory correct,” may mean many things to many people. Purists might define it as a car with every possible window crank, dash knob or even every nut and bolt is original to the car from the time it left the production line. Although some classic cars do exist in that rare condition, most do not. The majority of classic cars on the market were at some point in their ownership, restored or repaired with NOS parts (new old stock) or licensed reproduction parts. Whenever the information is available to us about the use of these parts, BlueChip Motorcars will gladly pass it along to the potential buyer. BlueChip Motorcars uses the term Factory Correct or Numbers Matching only to distinguish a vehicle where the engine casting code corresponds with the VIN and Cowl Tag code. If these codes tell the same story about the car in question, BlueChip Motorcars then considers it to be a Factory Correct or Numbers Matching vehicle. However, unless otherwise stated, the transmission, rear end, and transmission may or may not be original to the car. BlueChip Motorcars welcomes all potential buyers to verify all the information with a qualified expert. We would be happy to email you all the numbers that are obtainable on any vehicle where the term Factory Correct or Matching Numbers is used. |
