Description of 1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS

I am selling my baby! This is a 1968 Chevy Camaro RS/SS convertible with a V8 427 that will put a smile on your face every time you start the engine.It will put you in the back seat off the line and chirp in all four gears!I bought it pretty much as is from a collectorabout 5 years ago. I am selling it because I have decided to do a restoration project of my own with my son and need the garage space. This was restored a number of years ago by the previous owner and it still looks awesome! The hole underside (suspension, brakes, shocks, etc.) are all new. The convertible top is new and its powered and the windows are powered as well! My understanding is that only 1.5 percent of convertibles had power so this is a rare feature. Additionally everything under the hood is new as well including the engine, so this is not a numbers matching car. I was told by the previous owner he bought it with a 396 that had a cracked block. He replaced it with a 66' 427 from a Corvette, so although the badging says 396 it is actually a 427!
The car has never seen a drop of rain during my ownership.I have only put about 1,600 miles on it in the 5 years I have owned it. I primarily have gone to local car shows or cruise nights.
If you are looking to decode the VIN...First Generation Chevy Camaro VIN Decode

Not much can be decoded from a 1967, 1968 or 1969 Chevy Camaro VIN. You can only determine the type of engine either 6 cylinder or V8, the year and the plant produced. You can not determine the exact engine installed in a first generation Chevy Camaro by the VIN. The 1967 Chevy Camaro was the only model to have the vehicle identification number (VIN) tag mounted to the door hinge pillar. VIN tags on later models are visible through the drivers side windshield.(See below for links to other years)

FACT:There is absolutely NO engine information contained in a Camaro VIN until 1972.

1967-69 CAMARO VIN

Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Example: 124377N100001
Third Digit Engine:3for 6 cylinder,4for V8
Fourth Digit Body Style:3for coupe,6for convertible
Sixth Digit Year:7=1967,8=1968,9=1969

Last Six Digits increase by one with each Camaro built at each plant
NOTE: 1967 Chevy Camaros started with (100001)
NOTE: 1968 Chevy Camaros started with (300001)

If you are looking to decode the Cowl Trim Tag on this car...

01C - Built in January "01", 3rd week "C"

68 - 12467 - Model year "68", Body style is an 8cyl convertible "12467"

717 - Meant this car was produced with a blue interior

U4 - Lemans Blue body color "U" and a blue convertible top "4"

So you can see the car was produced blue on blue on blue, common for the day but in my opinion butt ugly! I wasn't looking for original and they did a great job was the color mods to make this car look awesome during the restoration!

The Engine Code on the car is T0404IP. I looked this up under Chevy Corvette engines codes and it breaks down as follows:

T =Tonawanda NYAssembly Plant

04 = Month

04 = Day (there was no year)

IP = 1966 427 Mt SHP 425 Vette

Two items missing from the car - radio speakers, the original radio is in place but the speakers where removed by previous owner. I never bothered replaced them because I like listening to the exhaust. Also no spare.

I will consider offers, but please no low ball bidders - thanks. The car is being sold "as is" with no warranty or refunds.
