Description of 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle

1968 Chevrolet Chevelle 396

I bought the car in Orange Park, Florida from a retired gentlemen in April 2013. He said he bought the car from a collection, the car had been frame off restored 4 years earlier (2008). As of today, since full restoration (rear axle forward), the car has 6000 miles. The car has won multiple awards including the last show, winning aTop 25 award out of 160 cars at a Clay County Cruisers Show.

The car VIN starts with 136 which means the car started life as a V8 car at the factory but not a true 138 Big Block Car. The car is a clone SS.

VIN 136378K246657

  • Chevy / 36-Malibu / 37 – 2 Door Sport Coupe / 8=1968 / K-Kansas City, Missouri / Production Number 146,657

  • Attached is my best description and I am a perfectionist.

The body and paint are very good/excellent, 8.5/10. All car guys know black paint hides no sins and this paint is deep and frequently complimented. It is a very straight car but not perfect as it is 47 years old. Under the hood and door jams are of equal quality paint. The car has one paint crack in the driver’s front fender. There is one small spot (pencil diameter) on the bottom of the passenger fender behind the front wheel well that is raised. It is not soft, you cannot push on it, it is solid. It will not show on camera.

The interior is excellent 9.0/10. It has full new gauges in the dash insert. The car has full Dynomat (sound deadening), new carpet, a new console, new interior aluminum trim plates, new headliner. The dash has not been cut. The dash pad has no cracks. The floor pans are perfect. The front windshield and back window are brand new with new weather strip. The 4 side windows roll up and down well but are original and have a few scratches. The drivers and passengers front windows have small gaps when rolled all the way to the top.

The Engine is a 396 Big Block. It has a new 4 barrel Edelbrock 750 cfm, Edelbrock intake, cam, hooker headers, MSD, dual exhaust and a 2500 stall. The car has been dyno tested at 320 hp to the rear wheels. The car runs cool staying 180-190 degrees in Florida, has never run hot, has a new 4 core radiator. It has dual exhaust with flow master exhaust and chrome tips.

The car has power steering, manual brakes on the rear with Wilwood disk brakes on the front. The transmission is a turbo 400 shifts great, no issues.

The rear end is a 12 bolt with a 373 posi-rear end, installed in 2015. It has a full Hotchkis suspension set up to control flex on the rear with Hotchkis sway bars on the front and the rear.

Parts bought new for the car in the last 3 years - K&N air filter and chrome trim ring, Chrome valve covers, Chrome alternator and bracket, Radiator, Radiator fan shroud, Radiator hoses, belts, Spark plugs and wires, Chrome oil breathers, Chrome alternator bracket, Spare tire and jack, Wilwood Disk Brakes for front, Kickdown switch, Eaton & Yukon 373 Posi-Trac rear end, Chrome Fender Moldings,Trunk mat, Radiator close out support panel, Turn signals, Front windshield, Rear Window, Full Dynomat in floorboards, Carpet, Headliner, Arm Rest back plates, Shifter console, Cover King Satin Stretch Car Cover.

The car does not have a horn, air or heat.

The car runs and drives great. I have driven it with no issues for 3 years. The longest round trip was from Jacksonville to Daytona Beach for the Turkey Run twice, 220 miles round trip.

I have a clear Florida title for a 1968 Chevelle.
