Description of 1965 Chevrolet Corvair Corsa 140 HP

Here is a rare opportunity to buy a neat and seldom seen beauty that will turn heads if they look quick enough to see more than a red blur as you speed by! This is the "hot rod" version of the Corvair with 140 big horses propelling a lightweight convertible, with you in charge as you shift through the four gears! Many of the ones left are the automatics which are not as exhilarating.Amazing survivor with its original interior! Appears to have the original carpet as well!It is a bright red original color paint job although I would say more of a 10 or 15 footer as they say, since the paintwork looks great from a distance but shows flaws up close. I tried to picture them and you will see a run, as well as some minor dings that are still evident. The emblems are boxed and are in the trunk with some of the trim including the windshield trim, which remains off because the windshield is cracked and needs replacement. The engine runs fantastically, and has recently had a good bit of work done by a reputable local shop. The mechanic said he installed a crank kit and quite a lot of other items. It runs well although still has a ticking from what he said was a rocker arm. It does not affect the running or performance and I will leave it for the new owner to have it corrected. You may speak with this mechanic about the extensive work if you desire, and I will provide the number. It looks very solid for a 1965 model for sure! I want to note a small rust spot on the door jamb corner of the passenger side only seen if you open the door and look at the corner. Nothing serious at all. The convertible top is worn and will require replacement. Surprisingly, it is an electric power top! Note the very coll period mag wheels! This is a 50 year old car so is not perfect or ready for a show, but an excellent fun driver. Please feel free to ask questions or come view the car prior to your bid, as all purchasers must know that sale is final with no warranties or representations whatsoever, and my ad contains observations but it is not feasible to be totally comprehensive on an old automobile which had prior ownership and work before mine. I will pass along clear title with no liens as signed by the former owner, since I did not register the car for driving purposes. Too many cars and I am selling a few so I can focus on the remaining ones! Any shipping charges or fees associated with your payment of purchase price should be assumed by the new owner, and I will absorb the fees for payment of the deposit of $500 due within 24 hours of auction end. Thanks for attending this auction!

Update: I ran into the former owner today, who is a nice 85 year old gentleman, who gave me a few more details on the maintenance history. He said that he has spent $2000 on an engine rebuild by a Corvair specialist in Asheville, NC just a few years ago. Reportedly the rebuilder was Secretary of the local Corvair Club. At that time, he also replaced the clutch, pressure plate, and had the flywheel turned. Note also that the brake master cylinder is newer as shown in the picture I added, which also shows the old original windshield washer bottle (and a bottle it truly was!) with its sticker still in place! He did verify that the seats and carpet are the original, and also that the old top is the original, and although it needed replacement all the while he had it, it was not necessary to him, since he kept it in the garage and only drove it as you see it pictured, with the top boot cover on it. He noted the electric top always functioned best with a helping hand on its way up.

Low reserve met so bid to buy! Very few original Corsa convertibles still around so you'll have a rare piece! I have to share more about the gentleman who was the former owner. I spoke with him as I said the other day, and he shared with me that he is somewhat "famous". A Google search for "Oak Ridge June 16, 1958, will find him. He is the sole survivor of our local Secret City's biggest nuclear accident. Long known as a research center for nuclear weapons, he was at the time an employee of the Y-12 Nuclear Plant in Oak Ridge, and on this day while working with bomb grade uranium, an uncontrolled nuclear chain reaction occurred, exposing him and others to high levels of radiation. He is the only surviving person with most passing in a few years. Now Bill still is active at 85, and I was fortunate enough to be around when he sold one of his collector cars, and now you will have the opportunity to buy a car owned by a living "celebrity"! He said there may be a number of things he did to this car but now cannot remember at his age haha!
