Description of 1955 Chevrolet Other Pickups |
Chevy fans rejoice, we've found your pickup truck. This 1955 Chevrolet 3100 is so sanitary, top and bottom, inside and out, that you'll be wanting one of those special clean suits they wear in electronics labs every time you drive it. This truck is NICE!Yes, it looks a bit orange in our photos, but the finish is actually a brilliant bright Victory Red stuck to bodywork that's really eyeball-grabbing. You can see from the reflections in the paint that everything is as straight as a mirror, and that effect continues even into areas you can't see, like door jambs and the engine compartment. The cab corners were repaired, which is quite common on these trucks, but the rest appears to be factory sheetmetal and it looks great. then there's the paint itself, which appears to be two-stage urethane for a shine that's dazzling as well as durable. No liberties have been taken with the stylish bodywork, and all the original trim remains, including the gorgeous chrome grille and massive bumpers that are almost too stylish for a mere pickup truck. The bed has been refinished using freshly finished planks and bright stainless rub strips, again far nicer than it was when it was new.High fashion was the order of the day in 1955, when trucks evolved beyond being simple tools, and the beautiful black and red interior in this one is simply gorgeous. With a wide, comfortable bench, you can fit three across, and the pleated upholstery echoes Chevy's production cars of the same vintage. A rubber floor mat makes it easy to clean, and the steering wheel was clearly inspired by the forward-looking "jet age." You can also see the tie-in to the production cars that were all-new in 1955 (Chevy engineers and stylists must have been very busy!) with the V-shaped instrument panel, which houses a set of restored gauges that are simple and effective. Shifting is standard 3-on-the-tree manual, which is really the best way to enjoy a vintage pickup like this, because it gives you the original sound and feel, and isn't that the point? The only notable modification is an under-dash A/C system that's discreet enough to go unnoticed, but makes a big difference in cruising comfort. That theme continues under the hood where there's a fairly stock-looking 236 cubic inch inline-6. No small block V8, no modern crate motor, and you'll probably find that the six is not only fun to drive, but a lot more interesting to onlookers at shows. As a result, it's dressed in vintage duds and covered in Chevy Blue paint for an authentic look. The stamped steel "Chevrolet" script valve cover looks period-correct, and the rest of the components are very production-line-oriented save for the modern alternator. The A/C compressor is hidden down low and out of sight, and neatly routed wires and hoses all give it a tidy, organized appearance without looking too flashy. Underneath, it's just as clean, with clean red floors, satin black frame components, and fresh hardware everywhere you look. The rear is full of 3.91 gears to deliver snappy acceleration, but the suspension and brakes are stock and have been fully restored. Simple steel wheels and basic hubcaps combine with fat 235/75/15 blackwall radials to give the truck a purposeful look.aWith hundreds of hours invested in the build, this is a first-rate truck that you can drive and show with confidence.
