Description of 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle

Some of the most extraordinary cars we've ever featured are tribute cars, and perhaps because of their underdog status, their builders seem to go the extra mile. This 1970 Chevelle SS454 convertible, for instance, is extremely accurate in almost every way, and that's in addition to being simply gorgeous to look at and a blast to drive. The white-over-red color combination is striking and perfectly suits one of America's finest muscle cars. No car is perfect, but this one is really bloody nice with super-straight bodywork that reflects beautifully under the shiny Classic White paint. Even for a convertible, panel fit is very, very good, with even gaps around the doors and it has been fitted with a correct cowl-induction hood with hood pins for just the right SS look. Red stripes are a little unusual but certainly look fantastic, and they've been expertly applied to match the factory pattern exactly. Bright chrome bumpers, proper SS badging, and all the other little details make this more than just another tribute car, but rather an expression of the restorer's craftsmanship and dedication. You can see just about everywhere you look that they tackled the project as if it really was a six-figure piece; it's simply gorgeous! The stunning red interior is OEM all the way, but the luscious color will make you think that it came out of something a lot more expensive. Recent seat covers, carpets, door panels, dash pad, and other soft parts mean that it's like the factory intended inside, and aside from a few signs of use on the driver's side, it looks almost like new. A 3-spoke steering wheel frames a correct SS instrument cluster, which includes a factory tach and clock, and the great thing about this LS4 build rather than an LS6 is that factory A/C is included. And talk about attention to detail! The original AM/FM radio is still in the dash and the center console has been fully restored, albeit with an accessory Hurst shifter for the 4-speed gearbox. The bright white convertible top lowers itself with the touch of a button and features a correct glass rear window, a nice feature in many GM muscle cars. The trunk is also tidy, with spatter-finish paint, a reproduction mat, and a full-sized tire assembly with jack. The 345 horsepower LS4 454 cubic inch V8 delivers a powerful wallop of torque at any speed yet with its more street-friendly nature, makes an ideal cruiser. The engine bay is detailed to show standards with all the correct pieces, accurate right down to the Chevy Orange paint and fully functional cowl-induction air cleaner. The list of new components is extensive and it's obvious that the work is quite recent as even the cast iron exhaust manifolds still look fresh from the molds. It's backed by a new Muncie M-22 4-speed with only 800 miles on it and a bulletproof 12-bolt rear end, and exhales through a reproduction dual exhaust system that looks and sounds right. There's more new stuff underneath, including the gas tank, and looks highly detailed in almost every way. Correct SS wheels with 225/70/14 BFGoodrich T/A radials at all four corners complete the illusion. This is a tribute that will fool most experts and the driving experience is identical. If you like the look and crave big block power, this convertible is a stunning no-excuses car. Call today!
