If you're a muscle car fan, you know that each manufacturer has its holy grail. For Mopar guys, it's the Hemi 'Cuda. For Ford guys, it's the Boss 429. And for a lot of GM guys, it's the incredible L71 Corvette like this Bloomington Gold Certified, matching numbers roadster. Better known by its displacement and horsepower numbers, a 427/435 was the fastest, nastiest, most potent sports car money could buy in 1967. Very, very few cars could keep up with it in a straight line, and if the road turned or twisted, the fight was usually over before it even began-the Corvette would simply eat you alive.

Before we go any further, let us provide some background on this top notch Vette by decoding both its VIN and trim tag.

BODYWORK/TRIM

Being a Bloomington Gold Certified car, you can be confident in knowing you're getting a level of authenticity that is often hard to duplicate with restorers that want "show-winning". Any car can be a show-winner, but only a few select Corvettes can be Bloomington Gold Certified. With that said, the GM code 983 Goodwood Green Metallic that wraps this roadster's fiberglass is the correct color this car left the St. Louis facility in, and today it reflects a showroom quality shine. The green hue is accented with a White stinger hood that has been correctly painted and covered in a glossy clear. Panel alignment is as the way the factory guys did it, and the chrome and stainless trim displays quality reflections that dropped jaws in the Chevrolet showrooms.

ENGINE

Tilt the hood forward and feast your eyes on the nastiest V8 the General could legally sell in 1967...the L71 427 cubic inch Turbo Jet V8. Producing 435 horsepower, the unique triangular air cleaner gives it away, and it hides the correct trio of Holley 2-barrel carburetors. Bright Chevy Orange paint covers the car's original block from its oil pan to its valve covers and, as always, looks great against a fully finished hood and satin black inner fenders. Correct decals and tags are present and accounted for; and niceties such as a fresh alternator, a correct Delco Remy ignition module, a reproduction Delco Energizer battery and a rebuilt Delco master cylinder ensure that this 'all GM' Corvette runs just as good as it looks. Look closely, and you'll see that there's overspray on the correct Winters intake, as well as on the exhaust manifolds just as the factory did it in '67.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Underneath you'll find a rugged Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission which delivers the neck snapping launches and potent acceleration Corvettes are famous for. At the ends of the car, a fully restored double A-arm front and independent rear suspension is completely detailed from its correct front sway bar down to its five leaf transverse rear spring. And at the corners of the car, standard equipment manual disc brakes combine with a manual steering rack to provide both weighted turns and quick stops. Above that rebuilt suspension, pristine fiberglass floor tubs, which look factory fresh in every way, are bolted to a straight and clean satin black frame. And below that suspension, power flows to the ground through classic 15 inch rally wheels which spin a fresh set of 7.75x15 BF Goodrich Silvertown redlines around dent-free trim rings and mirror-like center caps.

INTERIOR

Swing open the car's lightweight fiberglass doors and you'll find a spectacular GM code 430 Green vinyl. The foam underneath the seat covers has seen just enough low speed boulevard passes to both keep its composure and feel comfortable; and the like-new carpet, which is protected by clear rubber floor mats, still features a fade-free sheen. At the front of the car, stylish aircraft-inspired gauges look fantastic next to the brushed metal panels on the glove box and center console. And at the sides of the car, great looking stainless trimmed door panels hold chrome handles for the doors and windows above perfectly placed armrests. Between the seats, the dash flows into what is commonly called a waterfall design which begins at a continuous motion clock and cascades through a correct AM/FM radio to the base of a fully functional chrome shifter. In front of the driver, a wood rim frames 3 satin spokes around a pristine C2 Corvette cross flag horn button. And behind the seats, a fully carpeted storage compartment is big enough to stow a couple of bags for a weekend getaway!
