Hey guys. I bought this Corvair earlier this year. but I'm looking to move on to a full size Ford. so it's for sale. The car is a 1969 Chevrolet Corvair Monza. It's mostly red with a dash of blue over a black vinyl interior. Odometer shows 60k miles (the car sat in a garage for 20 years of it's life). engine is a non-original 102hp unit backed with a 4 speed manual transmission. Basically. the car is a running/driving project. It's currently registered. and this past summer/fall I was actually using it as my daily driver. It runs great. handles well. brakes well. and is just generally a really nice little car to drive. As you can see. it has some paint. Mostly reddish. but there's some blue there on the driver's door as well. When the previous owner bought it. the driver's door had some rot along the bottom edge so he swapped in the rust-free blue door you see here. My first instinct was to paint it. but I actually really dig the car the way it looks right now. blue door and all. in fact. especially the blue door. The blue door is what makes this car. or whatever. Anyway. the wife is less enthusiastic about the blue door and was trying to get me to paint it candy apple red (and she's talking with big stupid metal flakes. like a low rider). and that's not going to happen. so there we go. There's only two spots of "rot" to be found on the car. right in front of the wheels down on the bottom on both sides. look at the picture with the front spoiler and you'll see what I mean. On the rest of the car. there's just surface rust and the dent on the right rear. The doors close nice and solid. all the glass is good. Oh. and the car is still extremely rigid. I know this because when I jacked up the left rear of the car to change the tire. the left front was in there air as well. So this is a really solid car. Oh. and I have the rear lower grill. it's primed and ready for paint. The interior on the car is actually really good. The dash pad has two little tears in it. but isn't cracked or warped. The gauge cluster is in nice shape. but it does need a speedometer cable. the end going into the cluster had stripped. so when I hit 45mph it would start buzzing and it drove me nuts. The mileage on the car is probably about 60 miles higher than indicated because of this. The seats are in pretty nice shape. as are the door cards and carpets. One thing I did do was install a set of Clark's seat rail extenders. because apparently people were a lot shorter back then. I'm 5'11" and I'm very comfortable in the car. I also swapped the shift knob for a white one. but the stock one is in the glovebox. Oh. and the radio doesn't work. I apologize for the interior pictures. I took those pictures the day I got the car and the interior is actually quite a lot cleaner than that now. At the front. the trunk has been refinished quite nicely. and the master cylinder replaced. The previous owner and his father were big time Corvair enthusiasts. apparently between the two of them this was their 129th Corvair. so they really knew what they were doing when they refinished the trunk. Towards the back of the car is the mighty 102hp 145ci engine. It runs really well. only issues with it are a) the carbs could stand to be rebuilt. and b) it has a small oil leak on the driver's side. near the exhaust manifold. Besides that. it runs strong. drives great. and is plenty torquey to drive around town. Also. I recently serviced the throttle linkage. I was leaving my house to go to the last car show of the season and the pedal wound up on the floor. Turned out it sheered the stud that the linkage mounts to. so I replaced that about 25 miles ago. Works great now. The transmission is the aforementioned 4 speed. and I'm told the clutch is new as of about 500 miles ago. When you let the clutch out at low revs in first. there's a little bit of chatter. I suspect they didn't resurface the flywheel when they did the clutch. but I've noticed it's getting lighter as I drive it. so that's a plus. All gears engage well. you could probably do the bushings if you really wanted to. but it doesn't need them yet. What else. oh. the car has been lowered a bit. and it looks awesome. Only caveat to that is that the previous owner put really wide tires on the 15" slotted mags (225s). so if you go full lock to the left. the tire rubs on the lip of the wheel well. You'll also notice in the pictures that the lug nuts are mismatched and rusty. I've since replaced them with an all new set. and I can provide a set of matching wheel locks if the winning bidder is interested. The tires are in good shape. plenty of tread. but are mismatched. Cooper Cobras on the front and BF Goodrich on the rear. The car handles terrific. corners very flat. Okay. other things to know. In cold weather the car takes longer to start because the choke doesn't seem to be working correctly. I was just going to install a manual choke and be done with it. but didn't get to it. I did run the car on a day when it was about 15 degrees out here. and once it was up to heat. the car ran great. The right rear parking brake cable broke. Maybe every fifth time I'm driving the car. the first touch of the brakes results in the rear grabbing harder than the fronts. From that point forward. it works fine. I think it might be linked to the parking brake cable. since I remember hearing somebody say that when you set the parking brake it adjusts the rear brake pads. Paperwork. RI doesn't title cars this old. so I'll provide you with a bill of sale and the current registration. I'd also be more than happy to assist in shipping the vehicle. as far as driving it to meet a driver or whatever. If you want to drive it home. that's cool. just bring a portable bluetooth speaker for your iPod because again. radio doesn't work. If I'm leaving anything out. please feel free to ask. On Jan-20-15 at 11:48:38 PST. seller added the following information: UPDATE 1/20/15. PLEASE READ:Hey guys. just a quick update on a thing I forgot and a correction I need to make. I had the car out behind my house for the winter before I decided to sell it. so I just went and moved the car around front. It started right up. ran good. and I drove it around the block a few times. What I forgot to mention is that the car is going to need a headliner. it's missing a panel behind the dome light. I can take a picture of it if you'd like. I don't know if you need to buy a whole one or just have a new panel sewn in. because the rest of it is in pretty nice shape. As to the correction. I got the miles wrong by quite a bit. I stated 60k above. but my Jaguar has 60k. the Corvair is showing 99k and change right now. It was a mistake on my part. and I'm absolutely not trying to deceive anybody. It's important to me that I state the car as accurately as possible. so a gaffe like that really irritates me. I was going through service records for the Jag and had 60k on the brain apparently.
