This 1938 Business Coupe is a true California barn find. The car has been parked in the same barn since 1958. When I found it was covered in junk with the head removed from the engine. The interior is shabby but original. The only rust was in the rear lower trunk area where it connected to the trunk deck. After cleaning the head and removing a broken head bolt (which I'm sure was the reason it was parked) I lapped in the valves and put it back together. I rebuild the carb and fuel pump, installed a new battery and she started right up. When she first started I thoughsomeone would call the fire department because of the smoke. The longer it ran the smoke cleared up and now just a puff now and again. I rebuilt the generator and brakes all around, put on new tires and the car drives very nicely.I installed a patch panel in the rusted away area in the back and put in a new, correct gas tank, had the radiator flushed. I also replace the wood in the trunk using the old rotted stuff for a pattern. Everything works on the car right down to the horn and gas gauge! The odometer says 69k and that may be the actual miles do to the condition of the running gear. I have put a couple hundred miles on it locally zipping around a 55 miles and hour. The car had beenpainted over the original brown with a red oxide looking paint of which most of itcame off when I pressure washed it. I was going "hot rod" it but it's just too much fun the way it is.The car has a California titlewith acurrent registration. I hate to sell it, but I build hot rods.
