Description of 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Split Window |
Perhaps no American car is more iconic and recognizable than this beautiful example of a matching numbers Split Window corvette. It's beauty is instantly apparent and matched only by it's legendary performance. Painted in it's original Riverside Red with Black interior, it's sure to draw the admiration of even the most distinguished collectors. The following information regarding this fabulous example is believed to be correct and accurate. As I am not the absolute authority on authentication for 1963 Corvettes, I welcome all interested parties to view for yourself and ask any and all questions you may have. I have provided a number of pictures which represent the outstanding overall quality of this car. There is unlimited information on the internet regarding the specifics of the famous 63 Corvette. I believe this car can easily be restored to a top Concours example which, if you have been following the current pricing, are amazing! It is a fine example as it is now. The VIN number is c-30837s118013-z 9160 63-837 923A Numbers match on Engine Block, transmissionand VIN tag in glove box. Built June 1963, the 3rd week. The car runs great and moves down the road very well, equipment with the 327/340 and 4 speed manual transmission. (Very limited production) All instrumentation works, including the original radio. Brand new rims with balanced Red Line tires, which were available as replacements, installed with less than 50 miles on them.I feel this car is just an excellent example of what someone would be looking for as a great driver or the candidate for the NCRS title! No rust frame, just a very solid car. History as I know and have been informed by previous owner: Car was purchased by previous owner in early 70's. He drove it for several years, had the 327/340 engine rebuilt during his ownership and changed many of the original components to things that were available during the time. In the 2000's, he started some restorative actions but did not "restore" the car. It was repainted in it's original color, riverside red, and it is in great condition and looks terrific except for the hood. Apparently during the painting process, the hood was exposed to moisture, causing tiny "bubbles" under the paint. I have the correct paint provided by the DuPont representative of the US but have not had the hood repainted. It's not that it looks terrible, just needs redone to be nice. The interior was redone, which the seats, carpet and trim still look great. The dash does have cracking only at the handle above the glovebox. Otherwise looks great. It sat for a number of years in his garage, which is where I found it. This car is an "unknown garage find"to the Corvette world as it has been hidden for many years away from view. I purchased the car a little over two years ago and have been gradually going through the car to replace items with the original components.I replaced the intake manifold and Holly carburetor with the correct, show quality 1963 intake manifold that correspondes to the 327/340 and correct, rebuilt and show quality Carter 4 barrel carburetor. The manifold removed was from a 1964 and the Holly was the off the shelf version available at the time. It also had a later model distributor, which has again been replaced with an original, correct distributor complete with the mechanical tachometer cable. The car now runs great, exceptional power and performance. There are many new and replacement parts on the car, only using what was originally available. A few items still on the list to replace to return to original: Hurst shifter needs replaced with original. The center aluminium console has been replaced with a once piece unit from a 1964+ corvette. Needs changed back. There are some smaller things that I'm sure only the most knowledgable enthusiast would know, such as theseat adjustment handles are from a 1964+. I have all the parts that were removed and many extra items that will be provided with the car. (Original rims, (may need for the manufacturing date stamp), spare tire cover, several carburators including the Holly and Carters, headlight motor, wiper motor, and more.) Please feel free to inquire as you see fit, I will do my best to answer questions to the best of my knowledge. I will assist with shipping but you will need to make the arrangements. |
