Condition Report:
This vehicle has been stored in a garage for much of it's life. While it runs and drives fairly well, it should be considered a project and is driver quality.
Cosmetically, the paintwork is old and still shows well. However, the paint job is not perfect. It appears to be an older single stage enamel job. You can see sand marks in spots, and the gaps are decent but not what you would expect today when restoring a car. It appears to have all original GM sheet metal but the quarters may have been replaced some time in it's life. We could not find any foreign reproduction parts on this vehicle aside from the jack assembly we supplied and probably a few emblems.
The underbody is far more solid than many other Camaros we have seen. The glass is also original and in good shape but the windows will need some adjusting to shut correctly without gaps. The rear windows sometimes need help when trying to get them up. The top is a manual top and in good shape aside from the rear window (folding) which will need a new seal between the panels. The trunk is super solid as shown. Mechanically, the engine is numbers matching as shown. We had a compression test performed and they were all cylinders were 150-160 PSI. The intake and carb are aftermarket and the heads appear to be double hump 202 heads. The vehicle has power steering and power drum brakes.
It starts, stops, steers and runs fairly well but all the components are older and the suspension could use some freshening up. We also noticed some u-joint noise when shifting from drive to reverse. It has glass packs as shown for exhaust.
The gauges appear to work and the oil pressure and temperature is great. We did have the coolant, hoses, thermostat, carb rebuild and tune up performed several weeks back. We still would recommend going through the car before using it. We also strongly recommend trailering the vehicle back if you are the winning bidder as the tires are older.
The interior is nice but not perfect and the carpeting is recent. There is a slight mouse smell when the top is up but we are sure it will clean up with some TLC. The vehicle even retains the original AM radio. The original trim rings are included with the sale but no other parts or documentation exists. The title is free and clear.
Make no mistake that this is a project vehicle. However the Camaro convertibles are rare and it would be a great candidate to either do a full restoration or drive it as is and fix it up while you drive it. To summarize, it is our opinion that this 1968 Camaro Convertible SS Tribute would be a great addition to anyone's collection.
