Description of 1985 Chevrolet S-10 S-10 Durango |
THE GOOD: Sliding Rear Window, 1000 lb. Payload Package, A/C works, Fleetside Body, 108 in. wheelbase, 3.42 ratio rear axle, 4-speed trans., 4-wheel drive floor shift, Power Steering, 3rd Party Chrome Wheels, Towing Device (Hooks), AM/FM radio, Full Pendaliner bed liner, 2.8 V-6 Grooms Engine with 116,542 miles, and it runs good, doesn't smoke or use oil that I can tell, but I have not driven it regularly for several years. We use it only for hauling tree limbs, and deer hunting in the fall. THE BAD: Frame exhibits INORDINATE RUSTING, ball joints likely need replacement according to a mechanic friend of mine, transmission won't stay in first gear (have to start off in second gear but no problems with 2nd, 3rd, 4th or reverse.) Since it's a 4-wheel drive vehicle, I would need to be a mechanic or have one in the family to get this repaired with a reasonable labor bill, rear view mirror WILL NOT stay glued to windshield. THE UGLY: Well... I guess the photos describe that pretty well!!! Heck, I didn't even clean it up for the photos. The spotlight laying in the seat, and other miscellaneous junk stays with me... after all, it IS pretty much stuff that a lot of folks would call junk. I call it "stuff".Oh yeah, the gun racks can stay with the vehicle. I bought this truck after returning from deployment to the Gulf War in 1991. I used it as a utility vehicle and I have hauled several deer out of the woods with this truck. I have a 2000 Silverado which has assumed the role of ditch jumper, trash hauler and hunting vehicle, effectively retiring "The Little Red Mule". If you have some good connections with folks who are mechanically inclined, I believe you would find this a good deal. The V-6 Grooms (Chevy) engine had a limited liability warranty with free labor for 18 months, and free engine replacement for as long as I am the original owner. It's non-transferrable, though. (Sorry 'bout that.) |
