1969 Chevrolet Chevelle

CONVERTIBLE

This is a great car to enjoy on a sunny day. It’s so much more fun than a hardtop. Besides being far rarer, everyone loves a classic convertible!!! Even people that really do not fully appreciate classic/vintage cars love this little machine. The chrome really glistens and, when the top is down… it really shows off the great turquoise green/blue summer seaside exterior colour against the bright white interior. Just an outstanding combination. It really dazzles in the sunshine. I think that, unfortunately for us, the only 2 people in the whole world that do not love this car are our 2 young kids. They just do not enjoy the convertible at all… not one bit.

So I guess, that brings us here. We are letting this car go with NO RESERVE. Please understand, that’s a big decision. Only thing I ask is that you, as the buyer, please be considerate of our request for a simple and easy transaction.

I will be upfront and straightforward with my description.

So I don’t miss anything (my memory isn’t as good as once was), I am typing this with our laptop on the roof of the Chevelle, and am actually, physically walking around the car. No chance of “Oops… forgot about that”. Here are the discernible flaws as I view them:

• One small rust bubble; located behind the driver’s rear wheel opening, by the aluminum moulding.
• It is approximately the size of a silver dollar, and has not broken through the paint.
• It doesn’t appear to be a deep corrosive bubble, but a shallow superficial bit, and just below the surface of the paint.
• The thickness of the blister is maybe that of a couple hairs.
• A better photographer, with better experience may be able to catch it. I wasn’t.
• It’s really difficult to see, except in just the right light, at just the right angle, and only if you know exactly where it is.
• The black paint on some of the trims and moldings has faded and/or become very thin.
• 6 of the small convertible parade boot buttons show surface rust. They are held each by one small Phillips screw in the centre.
• Note: New ones are in the glove compartment.
• I think the ones that aren’t rusted were probably replaced at some point.
• There is a “bullseye” chip in the windshield, slightly larger than a quarter.
• It has been professionally filled/repaired at a glass shop so it shouldn’t ever spread.
• The aluminum “body by Fisher” sill plates in the door openings show age and dulling.
• The round plastic Astro Ventilation dash vent diffuser on the passenger side is loose fitting. It doesn’t always stay in place where it’s pointed.
• The instrument cluster plastic has dulled.
• The inside headliner of the convertible top has frayed at some stitching.
• Somebody with 5 minutes and a sharp pair of scissors could get rid of these loose threads in a hurry. I keep forgetting.
• Also, there is a small tear by one hinge, that has exposed the burlap filler material between layers.
• The top is in generally okay condition but, has a cut that was repaired by the rear window. It isn’t terribly noticeable.
• Also, some of the stitching on the seam covers has began to show some signs of aging.
• A complete new top is $2300-installed. It’s not a large expense, and definitely not in the scope of things. Maybe just my opinion but, it’s still in very decent condition overall. I couldn’t justify it at this point
• There was a small horizontal scratch by the passenger rear wheel opening that bugged me. I had it repaired and the match isn’t 100%.
• It’s very close in colour but, really seems to jump out in pictures as opposed to real life. (Go figure…. My camera doesn’t want to capture some things, and others it emphasizes).
• Small “ding” in the front bumper that can be covered by the tip of your index finger.
• There are, or better yet… WERE small chips and imperfections in the paint of the car.
• Nearly all were touched up. Paint was spectrograph matched and touch-ups done professionally. Still… It is my responsibility to mention. If looking from very close range, the tiny touch-ups can be visible.

I know most of the things I have outlined here can be considered a bit “nit-picky” and can maybe take longer to read than what they’re worth.

My hope is that by listing everything, that it spells out a really accurate picture of the car as a whole.

In general, this is an outstanding car. It isn’t a freshly restored gem but, rather an excellent running/driving car; a gem in it’s own right. It’s a car that you can enjoy and not have to worry about putting up a stanchion around it at a show-&-shine. The rumble of the dual exhaust on this car makes it so much more fun to drive. The feeling of the sunshine while you are driving and the sound of the engine match up to something so incredibly visceral that defies explanation. For being painted sometime in the ’80’s, it has stood up incredibly well; especially when you consider that most cars built when this one was repainted aren’t even around!!! The car looks just fantastic. It runs and drives marvelous. The top goes up and down with ease. I’ll stop here…. before I sound like I’m gushing about this awesome little car. I’m sure some happy auction winner will really cherish this Chevelle, and love it to the moon and back.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

Mileage reads 36,863. It is easy to see that this is not original, and the 5-digit odometer has rolled over. The Chevelle isn’t an original numbers-matching-engine car. The original 307 was replaced with a period correct 350 cubic inch engine. The rear end is a 12-bolt. Also, the 235/75/R15 tires the car comes with, and Corvette rally wheels, didn’t come on this car factory. Asides from the items mentioned, and the (not quite antique, somewhat silly) ’80’s era Kenwood cassette deck, this car is quite original.

SHIPPING/DELIVERY:

I’d say that, in our experience, most (maybe 75%) American destinations fall between the 15-hundred to 2-thousand dollar range. To play safe, please budget for at least that amount. We are running an unreserved auction so, the savings should help offset any shipping/delivery costs. Please also note that, as mentioned, my wife has become pretty adept at making all the arrangements so you get your car as quickly as can be.

Titling and/or registrationEverything is perfectly transferrable and will be signed over and taken care of for you immediately following the sale. It is free to travel without restriction and titling is universal. The only extra cost is a $120-150 customs brokerage fee. My wife has everything ready to go for the car, and will only need your information filled in, once the sale is completed, to finalize the ownership.

Procedure is very important and we have a perfect little system that has proven very simple and effective in making everyone happy. It goes as follows: Immediately following the sale, I will ask for your buyer’s information. My wife will fill in all the paperwork and title transfer. That will be scanned and sent to you. Once received, you validate the information as correct and confirm. Then, my wife sends the banking transfer information. After payment is received, she arranges transportation/delivery. Simple as that.
