1962 Chevy Impala Sedan with 81,635 miles -- SURVIVOR! Summary This 1962 Chevrolet Impala 4-door sedan is without a doubt a survivor car built in St. Louis, MO and is the 4,631st Impala built in 1962 (from VIN tag). It retains majority of its original factory applied paint, it's believed the engine has not been apart nor rebuilt, and has retained majority of its originality thru various owners over the years. She runs and drives very well, and has been reliable on summer cruises and longer road trips. I've only added a little over 2,000 miles to it since I bought it in April 2016. The car shows well and gets compliments all the time. I believe she spent majority of her time in a garage. During my ownership, she's always had Fuel Stable, non-ethanol fuel, and a battery tender when not in use. But, it's time to find a new home as we've took up RV'ing in a travel trailer. The car is one you could maintain for many, many years to maintain its originality. Mechanical - • Reliable Factory 283 - 2bbl V8 with 2 speed Powerglide.
- • Previous owner touched up the paint on the air cleaner and valve covers but otherwise she remains as built.
- • I only use non-ethanol gas.
- • One of the previous owners replaced the cartridge type oil filter canister for a new base so that a spin-on oil filter can be used.
- • Manual drum brakes all the way around. Don't let that worry you...this car drives and stops nicely.
- • Manual steering.
- • Radiator re-cored and cooling system flushed by Ohlly's Radiator in Peoria by previous owner.
- • Gas tank removed and inside cleaned by previous owner.
- • Yes, you'll see a spot or two of oil from the engine area if she sits in your garage. Remember, this engine has not been apart. She has not used oil in the time I've had her.
- • I changed oil twice - when I first bought it and spring 2017.
- • I also put new sparkplugs in, set the gap, and checked timing.
- • That is the extent of the maintenance she has needed in my time with her. For a cold start, pump it a few times and off she goes. When she's warmed up, she starts instantly.
Body & Paint - • Mostly original paint code 925 Coronna Cream paint with areas of touch up, done mostly well but by no means perfect by previous owners.
- • You can see the front passenger fender has most likely been repainted at some point, with some spotting on the paint. This is the only area that I would fix the paint if I had the time to.
- • Original chrome is good on the bumpers with a few slight dings; no rust.
- • Yes, you will see simple surface rust under the hood here and there but NO ROT.
- • Floor pans are solid
- • This car is not rusted out and is solid
- • Trunk in great shape with previous owner applied matting to replace original mats. Reproduction matting can be had thru various places like Impala Bob's or Classic Industries
- • Looks to be ORIGINAL BIAS PLY SPARE TIRE and jack in trunk.
- • Presents very well and has been admired at cruise-ins and in general driving.
- • Glass is in great shape with no cracks or pits.
Interior - • Trim code 866 Fawn Interior
- • Steering wheel, dash all original
- • Steering wheel is in great shape showing some wear but no cracks
- • Carpet and seat coverings professionally replaced by previous owner due to wear. Factory style carpet and material used for the seats. This was done professionally and is in great shape.
- • Headliner (star pattern) is original, not replaced, and in good shape.
- • AM radio does work (after warm up of course) but occasionally does not.
- • Clock has kept time but again, no surprise, on occasion she sticks usually at the 10:30 mark.
- • Speedometer jumps a bit here and there, and most likely needs a new cable.
- • Odometer counts miles correctly and this is believed to be original miles (not rolled over).
- • NEW aftermarket rear seatbelts with aircraft style latches have been added by current owner.
- • Factory seat belt attachment points can be used for front seat belts and attachment points made correctly for rear belts. Period correct latch style buckles are used.
- • Seatbelts purchased from Seat Belt Planet. Only rear seat belts are installed. You would need to measure and order seat belts for the front (again, using the installed factory points) from Seat Belt Planet.
Blemishes, Scratches, and Stuff it Needs - • There is an old scratch to the metal on the trunk lid (shown in pics).
- • Paint is not perfect but does show well. Passenger front fender has spots from either poorly applied paint (years ago) or ???
- • Front seat belts need purchased and installed by new owner.
- • Hood springs are weak and should be replaced.
- • Wiper motor needs replaced - works occasionally - I just don't drive it in rain.
Extras - • Factory GM Service Manual for 1961 (applies to 62)
- • 2 reproduction factory assembly manuals for 1962 (for use in repairs, restoration, etc)
- • ORIGINAL 1962 Chevy dealer brochure
- • Original 1962 IL license plates and matching key tag for keychain, as they used to do. These are period pieces.
Title, Payment, Etc. Clear IL title in hand. Small deposit via Paypal ONLY. Do not pay full amount via paypal, as the fees are way too high. Payment is cash or cashier's check ONLY from a bank/credit union. I cannot accept personal checks. If paying by cashier's check, we must go to my credit union so that funds can be verified. I cannot deliver the car. I can, however, meet a shipper/transporter right off the interstate if needed. You can come and drive her home ... because she is reliable and a fun car to cruise in. I will have a Bill of Sale as well for both you and me.
