Description of 1962 Chevrolet Corvette |
Having benefited from 10 years of refinement, the 1962 model year is considered by many knowledgeable Corvette aficionados to be the best of the first generation Corvettes. The 1962 Corvette was faster, handled better, looked sharper, and was more civilized than any previous Corvette. For pure driving enjoyment, the 1962 model is the classic Corvette to own. According to the NCRS Shipping Data Report, the car being offered was originally delivered to Briskin Chevrolet in Westville, NJ. The current owner / restorer purchased the car in May 1998, from the second owner, who had purchased it in April 1964. When purchased in 1998, the car was found to be mostly original, with the exception of the exterior, which had been repainted in a metal flake Burgundy over the original Roman Red lacquer. Because the car would not qualify as a Bow Tie or Benchmark candidate, the new owner / restorer decided the car would undergo a total restoration. The body was stripped to bare fiberglass and repainted in the correct Roman Red lacquer finish. The engine and most of the components are original to the car. The only non-original parts that were replaced with correct components were the water and fuel pump. The radiator was original; however, it had a non-repairable leak and was replaced with an exact reproduction. The four speed transmission is original. The posi-traction 4.11 rear was replaced with a rear dated September 1962. This car was built July 9, 1962. The door panels and seats are original to the car. The car is equipped with its original 327ci/340hp engine, cast on June 12, 1962 and assembled on June 20, 1962, its original 4-Speed close ratio four speed transmission, courtesy light, windshield washers, Wonderbar radio, parking brake alarm, heater and two tops. The original soft top canvas needs replacement to be functional. It's the car's originality and the photographic documentation of the total body-off "nut and bolt" two year restoration that makes this Corvette so special. The originality and the excellence of the restoration earned the car an NCRS Regional Top Flight Award, with a score of 98.7. If so desired, this 1962 Corvette would be a perfect candidate to campaign for the coveted NCRS Chevrolet Duntov Award of Excellence. |
