This 1981 Corvette is one of the nicest original examples I have seen. The overall car has been well cared for and well preservedfor all of these years. This was the last year to see a carburetor on a corvette, making it one of the last desirable models. Even thoughthis corvette was built in St.Louis, the quality of the paint and assembly was much better than the previous years as this was the onlyyear that the corvette was built simultaneously in both the St.Louis Plant and the new Bowling Green, Kentucky Assembly Plant. Thelast Corvette built at St.Louis was completed on August 1st, 1981.This Corvette is finished in unique factory colors of Charcoal Metallic Exterior and Silver Leather Interior. Nice contrast as seldom everseen. The paint on this car does shine real well and shows little to no wear for the age. In fact there are very few nicks at all and youreally have to look to even notice any of them. The only real flaw on the paint is the front nose on the bumper. It is not cracked, buthas some paint that has been touched up as it has bumped something over the years as most of these models due from the long front end.The doors, hood, t-tops are all aligned nice. No gaps or obvious repairs of any kind. Nice true survivor. The weatherstrips around the doorappear to be original and are still soft. No real wear. The original paint on the door jambs is still excellent with all decals and labels intactlike they should be. The glass is real nice with no scratches and the original date coded glass t-tops have no flaws and are as good as new!I have not seen a better set of original tops with no discoloring or tint discoloration. All weatherstrips around the t-tops is excellent as well. The front and rear bumpers on this car are excellent with no cracks. Even the paint really does not show any fading or shades different thanthe car. This is unusual as most of these original paint cars the front and rear bumpers will be a shade off or totally faded due to exposureof the elements. It just goes to show you how well this car was kept and always inside.
The interior of this corvette is very nice. Seats, carpet, and door panels all appear to be original and in nice shape. There is no cracks on theleather seats and the steering wheel along with the dash assembly is nice. The instruments have no signs of fading and all of the needles looknice, fresh, and crisp. The carpet is all original along with the floor mats as well. These items too are excellent for the age. Nothing needs replacing. All instruments work including the clock. Only non-original item is the aftermarket Kenwood AM/FM cassette stereo radio. A power antenna has also been added but the item is an exact replacement and looks just like the original would have. All speakers do work. The rear storage compartment is nice and not all cracked up, and does still have the original jack, lug wrench, along with the t-top storage bags which are usually missing in these cars.
The engine compartment is virtually untouched for the most part. All labels and markings are mostly there. Nothing painted or touched up. The original power brake booster still has that nice original gold cadium finish like it is suppose to. The air cleaner assembly, alternator, smog pump, all look nice. It also appears that the original spark plug wires are still intact. The original carburetor is still on the car. Shielding over the distributor, etc. Just untouched and original survivor condition that does not need any touch ups or restoring.
The chassis does still look nice and original. No overspray where someone has tried to paint it. Original finish on the frame and no pittingor real surface rust. Exhaust system looks nice with no holes. Original catalytic converter still underneath the car! Spare tire compartmentand original spare tire still underneath and looks nice. All suspension still looks well preserved. Only surface rust on raw steel parts suchas axle shafts and drive shafts. The rear third member went to an all aluminum in 1980 and was carried over in the 1981 model as well. Thistoo is in excellent condition. This is one of those cars you are not afraid to hoist up and drive upon a lift and look underneath to show anyone.

Other facts for the 1981 Model Corvette:
First Year For The 17 Digit VIN Number So A CarFax History Report Can Be Ran On This Corvette. For improved fuel economy, 1981 Corvettes with automatic transmissions had torque converter clutches for second and third gears.Chevrolet's "computer command control" became standard equipment and the system automatically adjusted timing and air-fuel mixture. There were no engine options for the 1981 model year, however the engine compartments were dressed like the prior optional year L-82 engines.Last year to see a carburetor on a Corvette.A detail change to the 1981 Corvette interior was the color-keying of the headlamp and windshield wiper switch bezels to the interior color. In 1980, they were black regardless of interior color. As like in 1980, the 81 model saw weight reduction in several ways. The engineers trimmed weight by using lower density roof panels, reducingthe thickness of the hood and outer doors, and using aluminum for the differential housing and crossmember. The aluminum intake manifoldbecame standard.
