Description of 1951 Chevrolet Other Pickups 3100

Up for sale for the first time since it was built?

THE SILVER BULLET

A 1951 Chevrolet 3 window, 3100 I 1/2 ton truck, nicknamed, The Silver Bullet.

This is NO rat rod. This was a 100% rust free truck that was going under the knife for a restoration. After the truck was sanded down to find that the one owner truck had such an unbelievable body, the owner saw the beauty of what it is and asked the shop to go ahead and sand it down to what you see here and put five coats of clear on it. The truck was then built as planned otherwise which meant, full custom interior and many things which you can read about below. The undercarriage is a new truck that you could literally drive into your local Chevy dealer and they be able to service with off the shelf parts.

It comes with a hardbound book, documenting everything on the build that the shop did when the truck was built.

When the current owner, who had the truck built, found the truck as one owner truck from right here in Tennessee. It even has the original title with it. Also, included with the truck are a few items that were the original owners that he kept in the truck and are still in it now.

Since the truck was built, it has been driven on several long distance 3-4 hour trips to car shows and has racked up 4200 miles on it since the build, most of course being hwy miles going to these shows.

AWARDS

  • Mayors Choice at Local Cruise-In
  • 2015 Best of Show at the Souther Truck Nationals
  • 3 or 4 Best of Show Awards at several small car shows
  • Invited to be in the indoor portion of the Pigeon Forge Show and won Best of show

THE DRIVETRAIN

The truck runs a all modern chassis, with all modern suspension sitting on a 2010 truck frame. The motor is a 2006 5.3 LS with 500 horsepower. The truck was tuned by a very experienced tuner of LS motors and has had several custom pieces made for the top of the motor (valve covers and top) to make it look like a big block with a carb. It has a L80 six speed automatic and is an absolute joy to drive wherever you want to go. The reared is a S10 rear with 3:73 gears. It stays cool through a custom built Avco aluminum radiator and it does stay cool. The entire chassis was reworked and painted black before the truck was put on it, so it?s as clean underneath as up top. Power is put to the ground with a beautiful set of Coy Wheels wrapped with 245/45r18 rubber on the front and 285/50r20 on the back.

THE INTERIOR

The high end interior of the truck is VERY nicely done in a beautiful, red leather over a later model 1988 Chevrolet truck bench seat, with the fold down hand rest in the middle. The tilt steering column is adorned with a beautiful 1959 Chevrolet steering wheel. All of the trim was painted just as nice in black with all the chrome done and many nice additions as well. The truck has a new set of beautiful Dolphin Gauges which look great in it. The transmission is shifted through a Lockar shifter adorned by a vintage microphone as your gearshift knob. Inside the cab you will be kept cool on those hot days with a Vintage Air, air conditioning system. You are also able to listen to some good tunes through a modern radio built to look like the original style radio with a aux input so you can even plug in and listen to all those songs on your iPhone or other device.

THE BODY

The body is really about the only original thing to the truck and as stated before, was and is unbelievably solid with no rust when found or now. Everything attached to it is pretty much new. Glass, chrome - including bumpers, trim, grilles, and the drivetrain, rubber seals have all been replaced. Everything was put back like it was factory, minus of course the upgrades to modern things. This was a NO EXPENSE SPARED kind of build and it becomes apparent the minute you start to really look the truck over. Added to the truck was an original Fenton Visor which the owner looked long and hard for a dn finally found for the truck. The visor was never touched, just put it on the truck as is and it fits it very well. The truck does utilize it?s all original door latches and window channels, which were all completely torn apart, stripped then rebuilt with new parts. The bed is from Bedwood, and is a wormywood maple w/modern stainless strips between the wood, with hidden carriage bolts so you don?t see the bolt heads. There are additional LED taillights coming from the end of the round bedrails by the tailgate on the rear as a nice little extra touch. Another nice touch is the original canister jar from the windshield washer has been modified to run through BMW window washers, to be fully functional if needed. Neat piece of the history that stays with the truck.

THE BUILDER: ACE

The truck builder?s name was James Needham out of Knoxville, TN, who owned a professional rod shop, Ace?s Rod Shop. James was quickly becoming one of the hottest truck builders in the last several years. His nickname was ACE, and unfortunately, he lost a battle with cancer over a year ago now. He was a super great guy who is missed by many.

James loved the fact that he was able to build this truck with the owner wiling to spend whatever needed to be spent to make it right, and they did an unbelievable job. He was very proud of the truck, said it was the nicest he?d done due to the owner?s willingness to spend what needed to be spent to make it the best.

MYSELF AND THE OWNER

I?m a car guy, probably like you. I sell my own stuff on the internet and at times I sell collector cars for close friends of mine. The owner of the truck is a good friend and has asked if I would handle selling it for him. It?s an honor to help him do so and I want to help him and the buyer of the truck in any way I can. He has collected very nice cars as long as I have known him, and has a real affinity for this truck, more than what I?ve seen him in the past with these vehicles. He had it built, and became close with Ace (James). It?s not easy for him to think about letting this one go. If you need anything I?m glad to talk on the phone and help answer questions. If I don?t know the answer I will find out usually within the day and get back to you, as the owner has time to talk. At the same time please be patient with me as this is not my job and I am fairly busy myself as the pastor of a local church and own another business too.

TRADES CONSIDERED

The owner did tell me that he would consider trades towards the truck, but mainly 50s/60s Caddys, convertibles are better. No junk.

I have personally traveled with the owner to several larger shows, not to mention the smaller ones, and have seen first hand, this is the ride that everyone congregates around. It literally is a show stopper. Feel free to contact me anytime with anything you need at chris@hotrodarcade.com.
