Description of 1973 Chevrolet El Camino

The time has come for me to hand of the project as I no longer have enough time for it. Id rather someone get to drive this rather than let it sit. I did not start this but I have had it for about 6 years and know quite a bit about it as well as having done a lot of getting it more streetable.
The car is as the title states, 1973 El Camino. Fairly straight but not a show car. It does have a super cool one of a kind louvered stock hood which is a really great touch, done well. The builder took a decent car and apparently wanted to make it go fast and have fun. There are loads of quality parts and professional labor put into this but also I can tell there was plenty of rushed effort on his end as well. The next owner was in over his head and had done some things which I am not sure I would have vs focus on dialing in this gem... I got my hands on this project shortly after he abandoned the new dashboard install and found that effort should have been spent on other things. I have spent considerable time making some things right but I just have too much on my plate and it has sat nearly untouched the last 2 years other than the lil rip around the block.
Let's get to the good stuff. This car is very likely going to be a donor for parts. I am ok with that but I would be stoked if someone would keep it together. NOTE: I willl NOT part this out. All or nothing. I will add more to this posting as I get more time.
1973 two tone, some body damage since a widowmaker hit it in the quarter, I straightened it out some and did some rough paint primer but it could use more body love.
MOTOR: 2000 Custom built 383 stroker. I have all the receipts. Pretty much as much money as I am asking for the car I have reciepts just in the block itself. Stage 3 rods, world heads, 4 bolt main, etc... put together by DeLucca's in San Jose. Then comes the fuel injection and computer. The motor was then treated to a tune port system along with an MSD box. Holley stealthram which has very short and straight runners that help bring up the power into the higher RPMs. This is all tied together with an ACCELL Gen VII computer and a wideband O2 sensor that I have running beautifully at the moment. Electric fans, hooker headers, flowmasters. It is a beast of an engine, very crisp response. BBK throttle body... too much to list. I got in touch with DeLucca's and the builder remembers this motor from 17 years ago, he recalls port work and roller rockers and other goodies.... (I do not think there are too many milesd on the motor and I have only put maybe 500 or so on it in the last 7 years.) I will consider going over the hill for a dyno run and some inspection for a serious buyer.
So after the first year I ended up needing to get the tranny rebuilt, which I had done and I have had no problems since. One thing I would have liked to get around to was hooking up the lockup converter to the computer but I had lost track of the dongle for the computer so I was locked out of tuning it for a while. That has been found! I have found that you also need to get or adapt a harness to do so... that is in your hands but I am glad to give you a walkthrough if that is important. So the tranny is a rebuilt aftermarket 700r4 from Hughes Performance that was rebuilt locally by aamco. Oh, and it has a cool B&M floor shifter. Gunna miss that! Moroso valve covers, edelbrock water pump... msd blaster coil and dizzy for hooking up to the computer control. MSD 6a...
the final part of the drivetrain is the rearend. It has a ford 9" posi disc brake setup. I swapped out the howling 3:73 and mellowed it out to a highway friendlier 3:23 as the thing was hard to keep it stuck to the asphalt with those shorter gears, while I was in there I did all the bearings and also the posi clutch pack and the rearend is now golden. One thing that was never done was setting up a functioning E brake.
A couple years ago I put on some fresh rubber. and have not abused it too much. Plenty of tread left.
Now for some of the quirks.... the dash gauges are all aftermarket, fuel is not hooked up, speedo is off.... there are some good gauges in the cluster but I have a feeling this will be a powerplant for someone elses baby so you can figure out what you want to do with that. No radio... not that you would want to listen to anything else than the motor anyways. There is a small oil leak from one of the intake manifold bolts.... barely weeping, easy fix... If you want me to fix that I will... a funny quirk about the wideband LC1 o2 sensor...as the computer reacts to the 02 sensor... the 02 sensor takes too long to warm up on a hot start for whatever reason andwill the computer will get confused and start to hunt. I am sure there is a setting to adjust around this, just keep your foot of the gas for the 5 seconds it takes to mellow out on hot start.
So here you have it, a functioning fuel injected car that you can plug your laptop into and tune on the fly.... A super pissed off engine that needs to be driven more with LOADS of goodies under the hood. Pink is clean, registration current!
I will post engine pictures later and for now I will be fielding serious inquiries only. I will consider trades of like value. I am especially interested in potentially getting a 4x4 diesel van.
Here is a little vid that was not well prepared for but will give you a good idea ..... note, the burnout does not require brakestand but I tried to keep it small and was caught off gaurd by traffic... :/ and then cars came so I could not reshoot.
Since taking the video I have relocated the exhaust to dump out the back so it is a tad mellower for neighbors as I climb up the hill. With it dumping at the side it was a real window rattler!
Now the last thing on the list will be to set up an appointment with a Place that does dyno work and film and do a health check to prove that this is the real mccoy as they say.... stay tuned.

Rebuilt 700r4----- plus new torque converter. $2300 -----only 700 miles on it. custom driveshaft $200 Holley Stealth Ram MPI system - on ebay about $2000... Accell Gen 7 DFI w/ harness, pro key, serial cable ~ $1000 Fuel tank w electric pump (level sending unit is not working ) $100 BBK throttlebody, not sure which size.... ~ $300 Hotchkis trailing arms upper/lower ~ $600 Wilwood brake proportioning valve - ~$50 ford 9" posi disc brake setup with all new guts - $2300 tires cooper cobra 245/60/15 & 295/50/15 - $715 So that is about $14,000 right there with thousands more in parts... not to mention all the labor! auto meter sport comp gauges, innovate LC1 wideband sensor and "adapter" and a bunch more, b$m floor shifter...flowmasters... just needs plenty of love to do it up proper! If you love the elky body, you will really need to tear it all down to do it justice though.
