Description of 1977 Chevrolet G20 Van G30 SportVan Chevy Original Body No Rust |
This 1977 appears to be mostly original with exception of a few items, front seats, wheels, the engine has been replaced in the late 90s. It has a new windshield and seal, alternator and starter, battery, distributor coil. It has starts up and runs good as it is. I have had to dump some gas or use starting fluid to start it after sitting 5 days. The previous owner said front end was rebuilt about 10 years ago but the van has only seen about 5k miles since then. The steering is very tight,1 ton brakes are very strong, and it is stiff in the corners with the 1ton suspension. I have not taken it on any long distance trips and would not before some carb work at minimum. It leaks some oil, the tires are 2 newer michilens - new by tread, but showing cracks from age. same for a bfg long trail ta on it, and one Falken tire that is new - no cracks. I do not trust these old tires in the desert once they have cracks. especially the heavy load tires. the heavy weight and centripetal force of the wheels spinning pull the tread off and damage the wheel wells. both rear sides had it happen sometime in the past on this van. The interior is is fair condition, the seats all need recovering - I would replace the front seats as they are not original and not in very good condition, There are covers for all the seats (not shown) to make them look better, kinda. There is no radio but thankfully no one has cut up the dash. The engine cover is in good condition. the dash instrument panel is in good condition. The gas gauge is not working. the voltage meter is not working. the speedometer is working. The wipers work, the HVAC blower works. I have not tried the heat.. It currently has a rear a/c roof unit. I personally don't use a/c, so its something I usually ignore for myself. The headliner is there but the cloth covering has been removed. I personally plan to take it to Kurk at customvan.com for the headliner, floor and to do something new with the side passenger panels..This is not included in the Buy It now. All the lights work and the keys work locking and unlock all the doors. The body is has surface rust that is removed with steel wool. There is no rust on bumpers or roof, nothing underneath - not body seams, not on the brake or fuel lines, not on the frame or suspension components. All the nuts and bolts easily come apart and never break from being rusted on. If your looking for a rust free original to start your idea with, this is it. This a list of the parts I plan to replace making the van more reliable for the road trip anywhere (not include in this listing - this is just what you might want to think about): I have new Firestone work force tires on original 16.5 wheels to go on it but will probably put some DVW wheels on it (currently has 16" and tires that are larger than they should be), brake shoes and pads, brake flex hoses, calipers, rear wheel cylinders, brake fluid flush, all filters air, oil, fuel, heater hose and radiator hoses and engine belts new fuel hoses and fuel pump, fuel sending unit and pick up filter in gas tank, sparkplugs, sparkplug wires, distributor cap and rotor, coil, rebuild carburetor or replace (currently bad accelerator pump so it has a bog/hesitation at tip in when accelerating from start or when cruising and increasing speed), Trans fluid change and filter, rear axle fluid, drive shaft ujoints, side pop out window seals, front driver passenger window sweeps, front rear and side door seals, front floor insulation, stereo and speakers (a stock style), and new HD shocks (air shocks in the rear). Heater core. I will have the one of the rear seat recovered (there are two rear seats, i plan to keep only one and recover it) to match the 2 custom 70s van seats that have been recovered (see in pics), I typically clean and spray clear over the entire underside also. The van has spent its entire life in a dry climate, free of rain or snow, so the surface rust stays surface out in this climate. The van doesn't need all these parts replaced now but maintance of all the items provide the confidence in making it a cross country road trip reliable machine for most people.
