Description of 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air/150/210 210 |
Excellent car. Had been in Texas until last year--garage kept since then. Super clean car. Definitely a time-machine--mostly original interior is in very good condition, no rips in seats--has seat belts for 6 for the Family Excursion to the ice cream parlor... No Northern winters--no rust-through anywhere. Never been hit--no body filler. Straight everywhere. Repainted once in original colors Cashmere Blue with India Ivory top. Paint looks pretty good but has some Texas Sun wear on the hood and trunk, and tops of the quarters. Paint wear doesn't look bad--adds to the overall original vibe that this car has. All original trim except new bumpers. Glass has a couple side windows replaced, front and rear glass original. Original wheels and hubcaps--brand new set of B.F. Goodrich Silvertown Radials all around. Factory air conditioning car--compressor still turns and last owner had a/c working but I have not been able to mess with it to get it going but if you want to get it working all the original system is still in place. I have receipts for approximately $7000 of work done since I had it brought up last year to get it as close to perfect driveability as possible: -New steering gearbox installed--minimal slack in steering wheel.-New Pitman Arm (Another new Pitman Arm is included with sale since Classic Industries had upgraded the one which is currently installed and supplied them at no charge to people who had the one which is on this car).-Drag Link rebuilt-Freeze Plugs replaced-Both sides Upper and Lower Ball joints replaced-All Transmission and Motor Mount bushings replaced-All control arm bushings and bump stops replaced-Idler arm replaced-Radiator Flushed/Oil Changed including oil in bath air cleaner-Headlights replaced-All belts replaced-Front wheel bearings and seals replaced (converted to tapered roller bearings)-Right rear wheel bearing and seal replaced-Front End Alignment Done-Tune up done--plugs, points, all wires replaced, new distributor and rotor--fuel filter replaced.-New drivers side glass in front-Carburetor replaced with a rebuilt genuine 1955 Rochester 2bbl carb--same type that was removed (I had original carb rebuilt, but it did not seem to work smooth so it was replaced with the rebuilt one currently on the car--original Rochester Carb included in sale).-New wiper arm assemblies (with replaced carb the vacuum for the wiper motors work very well).-New B.F. Goodrich Silvertown radials--nice smooth-driving tires--great wide white walls.-New water pump-Original 1955 Chevy Shop Manual Included-Harness for backup lights included (Backup lights were a factory option in 1955 and this car had not had them ever. The harness is what you need to get from the steering colum to the tail light assembly, includes bulb fixtures. I did not have time to install this so it is included with sale of car).-Brakes, brake fluid, manual master cylinder checked and found to be in good shape.-Old Dual exhaust in good condition--nice rumble.-Compression of cylinders checked and found to be in good shape for a 62 year old motor which has never been rebuilt. Car starts like a champ and runs well. Had a chance to run it last winter since there was little snow and it started great even in cold weather. Drives smooth and straight and stops well. The heater hoses were disconnected some time ago since in Texas they are not essential so I need to mention that if you want heat you will need to do this. Has some oil and tranny fluid leakage but nothing that runs the levels down. A little Oil-Dri on a piece of plywood on the garage floor does the trick... The originality of this car takes you back in time and the styling and paint is a real head turner. You will get tons of thumbs up and everyone in the gas station will want to tell you their "Old Chevy" story. I will miss this car--was hoping to keep it into retirement, but with kids in college things are tightening up and I need to let her go. Awesome '55... Also included--new condition dust cover for indoor storage, 10 bottles of lead substitute additive for gas. |
