Description of 1968 Chevrolet Impala BASE WAGON |
Re-listing, today, because of a dead-beat (rian_cake), my 1968 Chevrolet Bel Air 6 passenger station wagon restoration project. Restoration is near complete. Remaining work needed: interior (headliner & rear interior trim) and finish body work & paint. Wagon is a rust free, California car. Built, bought, & remained in Cali until I purchased in March of 2016. I did a complete tare down and began the restoration process. Car was last registered in 1990. Here is what has been completed. Complete removal of paint & primer. Brought down to bare metal and chemically sealed to prevent rusting. ( all except roof ). Complete removal of front end down to frame. Degreased & power washed to bare metal. Frame & firewall have been sealed in Por-15. All new bushings and core support mounts. All front suspension cleaned, restored, sealed in Por-15, Energy Suspension bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, etc. (car comes with new, big block front coil springs. Not installed-did not need) All new, NOS Delco, BIG-D, oil filled shocks! Yep, the big red ones! Rare score! All new, correct wiring harness. Lighting and engine. All new lights & NOS GM lenses front & rear. Have extra rears too. Non original 327 engine (from 68 Chevelle) fresh upper rebuild (lower rotating assembly is a .030 rebuild with aprox 2000 miles) built to match 1966 Corvette 300HP specs. New GM heads, vintage Holley Street Dominator Intake (same as original GM Winters Foundry intake) Edelbrock matched cam & lifters & Edelbrock Tru-timed dbl chain set. Converted to HEI ignition, new correct Holley 4bl carb. Complete down to all, replicated, correct decals, labels to ID 327 V8 - 300HP specs. New headers & dual exhaust (with x-pipe) to side exit tail pipes. 2.5". Has all new drum brakes. Included, and installed, was a super rare find. I found, new in GM box, the original, Dealer installed option, power drum brake kit! Power booster, lines, dist block & master cylinder. Installed & works perfectly. Power booster has correct stamping to reflect 1968 - passenger - station wagon - drum brakes. Great score for judging at shows or to chat about. Rear suspension done with new Energy Suspension bushings and new coil springs installed. Interior has been fully restored with only the headliner needed and front seat finished. Front seat is from a 69 Catalina and needs finishing to match rears, which I completed. Car will come with original front seat frame. Dash, floors (pans, sound deadener & carpets) door panels & rear interior panels completed. Floors were completely rust free, cleaned & sealed with Por-15. Completely covered with Sound Max deadener material and new carpet & insulation. Comes with all new weather strip for doors & tailgate. Felts at doors are new & done. New vent-wing window seals done, correctly, with new - correct pivot rivets installed. Dash is loaded with new, NOS GM, everything! Every switch has been replaced with NOS GM, correct switches. Took a while to find but did. Included will be all the new boxes with the used switches in them. All still worked, just changed out. The dash cluster also has a NOS GM printed circuit installed. Original was burnt at gas gauge & left directional. Restored Delco AM/FM stereo, from the late 70's, which has an AUX jack installed to plug in phone or whatever. All new upgraded, correct ohmd, speakers. NOS Delco amp/EQ installed. All new harnesses in dash & under carpet to rear. Extra, correct, roof light was installed in rear roof to match & give lighting to rear compartments. Rear interior painted to correct 1968 GM Blue. All correct stainless screws used throughout. All glass is original and in excellent shape. The right - rear - wagon glass has been professionally removed do to the original seal had become loose. I cleaned and sealed window frame with Por-15. There was no rust, just dried up old gasket. Window will need to be re-installed. Tailgate is excellent, rust free, and in perfect working order. Glass is great and all new, NOS GM, switches installed too. The old ones with boxes will be included. Gas tank was flushed & cleaned. 3 gallons was put in to break in motor & check sender unit. Gas was used up for break in & test drives. All in excellent working order. A correct, NOS GM, locking gas cap was installed. Brand new wheels & Cooper Cobra white letters. NOS GM correct center caps. Bottom line. Car is near complete. Runs, drives, shifts & stops beautifully. Needs some sanding & lipstick and she will be ready for the prom. Great solid car with most of the hard work done. I am moving on from this project due to life & career changes. I will miss her, but has to go. Car is 99% there, just missing a headliner, which is availble to get. Included will be a sample from the original. 1968 GM blue in Basketweave material. During the restoration time & breaking in the motor, the starter has developed a dead spot. Still works, just sometines will not engage. May require a replace/rebuild. Every part is there, new or restored, and ready to go back in. Included will be an actual, original GM, build manual. Will tell you where everything goes & the correct screw to use! Everything I have for this car comes with it. All that has been removed, the original boxes of replacements, and several other NOS parts I have for her. This is a great project to finish. These wagons easily hit the $20k range when finished!!!! I was not building her to sell, things changed & now need too. Please ask any questions you have. I have done my best to lay it all out there. I have much more in her than I am asking for. Stacks of receipts will come with her. Comes with clean & clear California title & 2 sets of original GM keys. Non refundable deposit of $500 IMMEDIATELY at end of auction to winning bidder. final payment, in cash please, at pick up of wagon. I will hold for up-to 2 weeks of sale & then relist if not picked up. Car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end auction early. ***I WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FROM MARCH 17TH THROUGH THE 26TH!!!!*** CAR WILL HAVE TO BE PICKED UP BEFORE OR AFTER THESE DATES!!!!!!! Thanks for stopping by & good luck if you are bidding on this big, sexy hot rod! Rich C. |
