Description of 1949 Chevrolet Other Pickups |
Up for sale is my 1949 Chevy pickup. I bought this truck from a guy who drug it out of a field in Alabama from the original owner. He then went about setting the 49 body on top of a 99 Durango driveline with the original 318 and 4 wheel drive. This set up gives you the best of both worlds. The old school rat rod look with modern comfort and amenities. I’ve owned this truck for a little over a year now and drive it 4 times a week. I’ve also driven it on several 4 hour road trips and it has never left me stranded. It was built to be driven as a daily driver… snow. rain or shine. I have put it through it all. and it does great. I typically get 14 MPG. although I’ve seen 17 MPG on long highway hauls…. and that was running AC. It runs and drive amazing and is surprisingly quiet and smooth going down the road. Here is a list of features and things that have been done to the truck. either by me or the previous owner. Exterior: Cab corners and cowl have been replaced. The truck was sprayed with a flat clear coat to stop it from rusting further. The body is in really good shape for it’s age. Minimal dents. There are only a couple small spots that have rusted through. Driveline: 1999 Durango 318 with around 110K miles on it. It is 4 wheel drive. (4 wheel drive works great) New heads. pushrods and lifters. 2” exhaust Has a nice rumble to it. The rear leaf springs were cut for ride quality so helper air bags were installed in the rear that can be inflated if you ever want to carry a load. There is an on-board compressor with controls in the cab so you can air it up or dump air as you see fit. Just put an alignment on it. New starter New Alternator New battery New larger throttle body K&N filter Headers New fuel pump New trailer hitch (All the wires work perfectly and I’ve towed a 12’ trailer with it several times with no problem) Interior: The interior was painted in a bedliner material that has an integral blue tint to it. It has some areas that are dinged. but overall. looks great. Sound deadening throughout the cab. New Ididt steering column and steering wheel. New Wiring front to back. This includes a new Engine and transmission wiring harness from Hot Wire and a new EZ Wire harness and fuse block for the accessories. Even has an OBDII plug so you can read codes if necessary. New Kenwood head unit with Bluetooth and remote. I regularly make phone calls through the blue tooth and people don’t know I’m on the phone unless I’m doing 75 down the highway. All kicker speakers and amplifier. This thing straight up rocks with (2) 8” subs and (4) 6 ½” full range speakers. AC that works great Gauges all work great. Door poppers Has Cruise control wired in the engine. but no controls hooked up on the interior. Electric wipers with delay and fluid reservoir. Even the sun visors have lighted mirrors on them. All the windows are tinted except for the windshield. The windows roll up and down nicely. The ignition was eliminated and now you simply flip two toggle switches and hit a push button on the dash and she fires right up. The bed is a treated cedar like you would see for a residential deck. Looks nice in the bed. Has a full size spare tire under the bed. I’m sure there are some things that I am forgetting. This truck is a real head turner. and I can’t drive anywhere without starting a conversation with someone. Countless hours have been spent getting this truck to the place it is and overall it is a great truck. I think a good body man could whip it into shape in no time if you wanted to paint it. Personally I like the pantina. It IS a rat rod… and it does have a couple issues that I will continue to address if it doesn’t sell. There is a small leak in the transmission. so she will mark her spot if she sits for a while. say a day or so. Also. the front wheels will rub if you turn them all the way to one side or the other. I think some new rims would remedy this… but I haven’t gotten to them yet. Because of the way the engine sets in the original frame. it sits tight to the grill. The radiator and fan are pretty tight against the grill (which has been cut on the back side for clearance. I have driven the truck on hot summer days in rush hour traffic with the AC on. It does o. k. as long as traffic moves… but I would be leary of running it in heavy traffic for extended periods of time until a shroud could be fabricated for the radiator. Also because of the location of the gas tank and fill tube (drivers side rear fender) you have to slowly fill the gas tank. You can’t just lock the fuel handle and walk away. It’s not a big deal… just want to be honest. Besides that. it’s a great little truck that anyone would be happy to own. I have had my fun with it. but am now looking to buy a 2015 Colorado and need the money for that. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. 314-566-2764 BradNo warranty is implied.
