Up for sale is my 1955 Chevy pickup. it was fitted for the fire Department by Van Pelt of Northern California. I am the forth owner of this truck. it was retired from Murphys, a small town in the mountains of Northern CA.,, fire district in 1995 and sold to a private party in San Francisco area. It has been in dry storage ever since and hasn't seen rain since. The truck was built in Oakland California and has been well preserved and maintained for the last 60 years. it has just over 29,000 miles and are true original miles, some years while it was in service it only went 8 or 10 miles in a year. it was part of a volunteer Fire Department sub station and had a small water tank in the bed for brush fires. The truck has had one repaint back in the early 1980's. the bed box and right rear fender have not been repainted except for a small spot on the fender, paint is thin. (look at pics)the left rear fender was replaced in 1980 to a spare tire type so it would have two spares. I have the original left rear fender in very good original condition that will come with the truck. there is pretty much no rust to speak of anywhere and the under side is in unbelievable condition and the original wood in the bed is very good shape and has been covered for the past 20 years. the interior is very good condition, the seat was redone recently. the top of dash was repainted at some time but all the white paint inside the cab is good original condition. The siren is extremely loud and works like it should and the lights on the roof work as they should. it has a C.B. radio and a loud speaker. the glass is all good with no cracks. the orig. matching numbers motor (235 cu.in. ) puuuuurs like a kitten, super smooth and runs strong, has a new radiator, exhaust system and the generator has been changed to an alternator, also a power brake dual master cylinder was added so it stops excellent. the transmission is a 4 speed granny low manual type and in very good condition. the truck came with 5.13 rear end gears and was recently changed to 4.11 so it goes down the road easy at 50-55 mph. this is not a show truck but it is a very well preserved 60 year old truck that has had a very easy life, there is no doubt in my mind about the mileage . it is a blast to drive and it goes down the road straight and feels tight. it is not often you find something like this, everybody loves it from 1 year old to 100 years old!
