Description of 1992 Chevrolet G20 Van |
1992 Chevy G20 Conversion Van (this will be an extensive overview and should avoid MANY questions. You will be fully aware of what you are coming to look at or going to buy. I don't have a lot of time to meet with skeptics, tire kickers or the like. If you ask questions that this ad provides the answers for, my response will simply be ''read the ad text'' I have no desire to mislead, lie or cheat anyone, so leave your doubt and skepticism home.) I purchased this van in 2004 and it had 70k miles on it. It has sat more than driven. It now has 147k miles. When purchased, it was in near Immaculate condition. I am the second owner and have a clear title in my possession. It's origination was from SUN CHEVROLET in Pittsburgh PA and was almost $40k new. I start and drive it around the property at least once a month, let it get to operating temperature, check for leaks, check brakes, etc. etc. All is fine. The transmission has an issue and my intention was to replace the transmission and rebuild the entire van as a self contained camper/ nomad van - but i do not have the health or time for this project. TRANSMISSION: 700R4 At about 85k miles the transmission totally fried. No movement. A few years later I installed a used transmission from an Astro Van that I used for work and it had 115k miles. The astro van blew a head gasket and was in my opinion not worth the repair. I continued to use this g20 van for traveling and then eventually removed the mid seats and bed in order to use it for hauling flea market and antique show inventory and occasionally camping as well. In 2014 at 147k miles the transmission starting acting up (current transmission) It was sporadically shifting into second or not. After the issue started i drove it about 30 miles home. I would manually shift, meaning, when first would wind out, Iwould put it into neutral then drop back down into drive and it would shift into second - then through the rest of the gears. So? filter and fluid change? adjustment? A repair that could be an easy or moderately fixed? I honestly don't know and have had a lot of varying advice or opinions regarding the problem, but i honestly dont have the health, mind or time to deal with it. *** I just drove it today 9/10/18 to see how it was working. I drove it a mile up the road and it shifted into second just fine at all times - as well as ran through all of the other gears. I have a 2 1/2 minute video of driving it and hearing it shift into second after stopping and starting repetitively and then following through all the gears. *** Shortly after the transmission began to have issues i purchased TWO used 700R4's - one is a GM rebuild that has about 40k miles on it, and another that has around 65k miles on it. I purchased these from a friend who has a small car lot and he removes and saves good engines and transmissions from trade ins and uses them for cars that he buys that may need them. I am completely confident that the transmissions will be fine. Change the filter, fluid, etc. and all will be good. I DO NOT have a flywheel cover. The one on the van is missing and the spare two do not have one. I will try to find it but no promises. . ENGINE: 350 TBI - DOES NOT SMOKE OR USE ANY OIL!! STARTS QUICK/ RUNS SMOOTH/ LOTS OF POWER!! OIL CHANGED EVERY 5 to 6k MILES!! OIL PRESSURE IS GREAT!! THIS ENGINE ALWAYS RUNS COOL!! GAS MILEAGE - if hauling a trailer or heavy load, the gas mileage is always about 12 to 14. - if driving against wind or in mountains etc, gas mileage is about 15 to 16 - if cruising on highway trip under normal weather conditions and terrain, gas mileage is between 20 and as much as 24 when I once made a trip through ohio and indiana. the gas mileage always amazed me for the size and weight of this vehicle. Cruise control works fine Within 500 miles of the transmission issue and parking - NEW: Water Pump Radiator hoses Heater hoses Thermostat Anti Freeze Plugs Wires Cap Coil Rotor Air filter Breather Filter Canister Filter Fuel Filter Oil and Filter Belt Idler pulley Belt (it's a gates belt and it squeaks pretty bad as they all do) About 3000 or so miles prior I replaced: Front brake pads Front rotors cut Front wheel bearing Front rubber brake hoses Rear Shoes Rear wheel cylinders Rear brake hardware Rear drums cut Rear Emergency brake cables The front pads have some wear but I have a new set of pads and will include them. The rear shoes are in great shape! EXHAUST: muffler and outlet is shortened and exits under the van, does not extend to rear of vehicle. It will still pass WV inspection. Y PIPE has a split and can be somewhat easily repaired but I have another Y PIPE included. SUSPENSION AND STEERING: Replaced idler arm Power Steering pump and lines do not leak. Front shocks were replaced about 4000 miles before parked. Rear shocks were replaced at 97k ALTERNATOR/ STARTER/ BATTERY: The alternator was replaced at 133k miles. The starter was replaced at 124k miles The battery is in great shape - I always keep it charged and it reads fine. AIR CONDITIONING: Air works fine - it seems once every two years i need to top off with a small can of freon. Has rear air as well, and the vent hoses are still in the back of the interior. The rear fan switch needs replaced and I have one included. HEATER: Heater works fine but the heater/ a/c controls need replaced. I have another unit to install and is included. Has rear heat and the vent hoses are still in the back of the interior. INTERIOR: The interior is in fair condition for the year and the use of the vehicle. The drivers seat has a tear and included are two identical seats and seat mounts that were in the mid section that were previously removed. The headliner has some sags. The carpet is not completely trashed but fair for a work van. Could be cleaned and is still usable. The carpet for the dog box and a few small pieces need glued back into place and are included. The dash is slightly disassembled and the heater/ ac control unit and the rear ac/heater fan switch needs replaced. all replacement parts are included. There is no radio unit. I will check in storage and may have an old one and will include if so. (no promises) All auxiliary lighting works - sides/ center/ floor etc. Front power windows work but have issue. They go down well but slow or spotty going back up. All they need is the motors removed and lubricated as well as the rubber window tracts. BODY: Body is in VGC considering age and design. There is of course fade on the roof extension and other spots of the body, as well as some clear coat loss and hood paint loss - all as pictured. The INNER ROCKERS ARE SOLID!! that is unusual for these vehicles. The passenger rear corner has a hole about the size of a 50cent piece. The passenger side rocker has a soft spot. The passenger side rear inner fender front has a hole starting and the lower rocker has some rot. The Drivers side rocker has some small soft spots starting on the outside. The Drivers door could use hinge pin upgrade. The Door bottoms are SOLID! The rear bumper is dented but . better than the one on it. The Electric Mirrors work fine. WIPERS need replaced - and . TIRES and Wheels: Rear tires are snow tires with good/ deep tread and never go low or flat. Front tires never lose air but have dry cracking. I have another tire on rim that will replace one of the fronts and you can use one of the fronts for the spare - and replace only one tire. . SOLID FRAME / BUMPER MOUNTED HITCH I attached the hitch to the bumper mounts as well for additional support. It is attached to the frame as initially designed. This is an excellent van to use for work or to convert into a camper or nomad van project. LOTS OF ROOM if using for hauling - LOTS OF ROOM including some spare headroom for a camper. again, I was going to rebuild the van as a self sustained camper and wrap the body. due to health and time restrictions I am giving up on this project. it is an EXCELLENT vehicle to start with as a camper or nomad van, or it is a great vehicle for hauling, service business, toy hauler etc. Please ask any questions that may have not been addressed in the above text - Please do not ask stupid questions - Please do not submit low offers - I understand what I have here to offer, you may not understand nor agree, I really don't care if you don't :) I prefer Cash upon pick up - and require a deposit within 48 hours if buyer wants me to hold the van. Deposit pending on length of time of hold. ALL DEPOSITS ARE NON-REFUNDABLE! I may be able to accept credit/ debit card- but will have to discuss that in person or via ebay messaging. Van is located in Parkersburg WV area. 26105 Now play nice and don't be foolish. Who really has time for that?? (i don't....) |
