He passed a year ago and I am helping his family sell a couple of cars from his collection. He was extremely picky about his cars and was fastidious with maintenance, detailing and care to his vehicles. My background in the classic car field is highlighted with over 25 varying restorations, including Corvettes, Porsches, VW's etc, over the last 35 years. I have been a member of NCRS and PCA for many years and have been involved in judging cars at Concour events all over Southern CA for many years. I pride myself on the depiction of the car in word and visual form. I judge the car as if I was doing a high-end appraisal. I will point out everything I know about the car. I am offered many cars to help market and am very selective in what I will sell. No jalopies need apply. DESCRIPTION Corvette Stingrays never go out of style and when they are as cool as this 1963 Red Roadster it's easy to understand why. The 1963 example featured here is an astounding specimen that has been through a repaint and mechanical restoration of a very original and low mileage survivor. This gorgeous little Red Corvette was originally optioned with a 327-340hp Engine, Positraction, an M-20 Four-Speed, and an AM/FM Radio. It remains in that configuration with a few minor mods to add to the overall performance. A set of headers was added and a Hurst Shifter. The original style "t" handle shifter on the 1963 Corvette has to rank right up there as one of the worst shifters of all time. The Hurst upgrade makes this car an absolute dream to shift by comparison. The car has always been in California since 1989 and been in the same family, amongst brothers from new. This is a very solid #2+ condition vehicle because the body, paint, top, glass, gauges, chrome and interior and engine bay are truly outstanding. The only reason I wouldn't call the car a #1 is because the car was done a number of years ago, from 1990 to about 1994. It is not a brand new freshly restored vehicle and for that reason and that reason alone I am calling the car as a #2 with a + sign. For show purposes, it's an outstanding car that you would be proud to display at any Corvette or local type of venue. This is not a concour car but could easily be made into one if that was your intention. Looking at the receipt list below you will notice the mileage in November of 1989 when Joe bought the car from his brother was standing at 89485. During the restoration, the original 340HP engine was kept mostly original and has very good compression across all cylinders in the 140 area. The car simply runs AWESOME... probably the nicest running 340 I have ever driven. The mechanicals on this car are awesome and it drives just like a NON-Body-Off low mileage car should feel. This is the way to buy, own and enjoy driving a Corvette. If you like the looks of a show car without the astronomical price then this may be the ticket for you. I would call this car a "solid" Show/Driver. My trigger point on classic automobiles is the body, because a good body will naturally describe a car with a easy life. It's difficult to get a Corvette back to that look if it has been banged up. The body on this car is dead nuts straight and was without doubt a virgin body before it was stripped and repainted. There are no signs up underneath the body of any repairs to the original glass. The body seams on the front fenders are all intact under the wheel wells on both sides. Only the original molds can produce the crisp and exacting lip around the rear end of the car and this one is perfectly executed. It has a still fresh looking expert application of Riverside Red paint. The body was completely stripped to the gelcoat before a high quality windows out, doors/hood off repaint was applied. It was obviously color sanded as there is no orange peel in the paint. The finish is mirror-like as only red should be. The car was painted around 1993-1994 but has been driven roughly 4000 miles since and has always been kept in a dry Southern California garage with a cover over it. There are zero cracks in the paint and it looks like a brand new paint job. Quality paint jobs like this one would be over $20K today, and the quality of this one has been tested over the years. If it hasn't cracked by now I doubt that it will ever. This car was prepped and painted over a couple of years, so it sat in various stages, then blocked and blocked again, then finally painted. This results in a paint job that will hold up over a very long period. The Chrome on the car looks like it was redone when the paint was applied and is very high quality. All rubber and felt was replaced during the restoration. Adding to the car's amazing cosmetics is a completely new Interior by Al Knoch. Dash, glovebox and glass is near perfection. The top is like brand new and was replaced around the time the paint was done and is in top shape. The undercarriage is in excellent condition, has been cleaned well and lightly painted years ago. It is very clean, very original with no signs of any rust or repairs anywhere on it. The front end was completely refurbished, the car drives straight down the road at 75-80 with no hands on the wheel. It brakes excellent and all shoes, wheel cylinders, lines and master cylinder are like new with less than several thousand miles since restored with new parts. The stamp pad on the engine block matches the number of the sequence number in the VIN and broach marks are readily viewable. I would call the stamp pad as good as I have ever judged (picture enclosed). The car is simply stunning. If you are looking for a car to DRIVE and enjoy... SHOW at local and regional type of events then this car may just be the ticket for you. Highlights: Full body strip and restore from 1990-1994. New Riverside Red paint, great fit and finish New Red carpet, door panels, dash and seats Original High performance 327/340HP, positraction, original tuned and outstanding All gauges, lights and accessories work. Everything on this little gem is exceptional. It drives and rides like a dream. There are zero issues with this car. Any further questions please feel free to call Frank at 949-310-6262 You will be buying the car directly from the owner, I am just helping with the marketing. His number is available for direct discussion. There is a large folder of receipts dating back to 1989 when the car was purchased from one family member to the current owners (same family - brother to brother transaction). I have encapsulated some of the things done during the restoration process to give an idea of the extensive nature of the ongoing restoration. Note the mileage notes that were in many of the receipts from 1989 to 2016. The car has only traveled 4252 miles since 1989 and has lived its life as a garage queen in Newport Beach, CA, since that time.
