Description of 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS |
|
HISTORY AS KNOWN Body off Frame, 10-year restoration. I am the 2nd owner of this Chevelle, that I am aware of. I purchased the car in 2007 from a Vietnam War veteran. He showed me a picture of the car when it took delivery on September 18, 1970 from Joe Bennett, of Bennett Chevrolet in Stafford Township, NJ. The picture had the dealer, the owner, since deceased, and his father in front of the Gold hardtop SS with black vinyl roof. When I met the owner in 2007 the car had been sitting in his garage for years, with the original motor removed in the late 1970's due to it being blown. He replaced the original 402 with a 1971 402. The original 4-speed transmission had been removed, and replaced with a power glide for his wife to drive. The car was non-drivable when I purchased it, with the original rims, and 4 flat tires. I then began the restoration with Woody's Garage in Manahawkin, NJ. The body was lifted off the frame while the engine was removed, the power glide transmission discarded and a rebuilt 21-4-speed transmission was installed. You will note all the new parts replaced in the car. The engine was brought down to the block, not rebuilt, but refreshed as the core was in overall good shape for not being driven for years. You will see all new engine parts below. The car was sent to Mouses' Wreakreaction in Lanoka Harbor where bumpers, lights were removed and car went through an exhaustive body work, and then paint. See below. I have a binder full of receipts, and other documents that will all go with the Chevelle. Since the repaint and new carburetor replacement I have driven the car 40 miles. That is what are also on the new tires.
