Description of 1987 Chevrolet Camaro IROC Z28 |
I was always a firm believer that if you owned a sports car it should be fast, have a manual transmission and 4 wheel disc brakes. This car has all of that and more. I have owned this car for over 14 years and it has always been garage kept, stored winters and only driven a handful of days each year and only in good weather. This 1987 is the pre-1LE version that GM officially introduced in 1988 and they only made 4 of them. This IROC had many of the similar options such as: LB9 5.0 TPI engine, G92 high performance axle (3:45 9 bolt), AC delete, Power Window delete, Power Door lock delete, Cruise control delete and engine cooler. The only thing missing from the 1988 RPO 1LE on this car was the Corvette rotors and calipers on the front, an 18 gallon baffled fuel tank and a unique PROM in the ECM. So today, the 1987 IROC LB9 5.0 TPI rated at 215HP has been removed in favor of a 500+ HP forged 383 stroker. The Limited Slip 9 bolt 3:45 has been removed and replaced with a much stronger Moser Ford 9". Please see specifications below. Engine: Period correct Gen 1 SBC forged 383 Stroker. This 1 piece rear main seal 4 bolt main roller block was hot tanked, manga-fluxed, line bored .030 over and torque plate honed, dynamically balanced with flywheel/SFI harmonic balancer and blueprinted. The forged crank is a 3.75" stroker with forged 6" H beam rods. ARP main and rod bolts. Pistons are forged Keith Black CNC flat top (compression is 10.8:1). Rod, main and cam bearings are King HP. The timing chain is a Cloyes double roller. The timing cover is chromed. It has a Melling M55HV oil pump with an ARP rod and bolt. The billet cam is a special grind solid roller Predator with .570/.576 lift and .280/.286 duration. PBM solid roller lifters. Hooker Super Competition 1.75" long tube headers into 3" dual exhaust with straight through Cherry Bomb mufflers (extra exhaust included). Engine was built to last and has only 2k miles on it and has never seen nitrous. Canfield aluminum 23550 heads with 65cc combustion chambers, 2.08/1.60 valves with a 5 angle valve job and ported exhaust, Comp Cams; 1.55" double springs/cups, 10 degree locks, Viton seals and .080 thick wall pushrods. ARP 7/16 rocker arm studs and aluminum 1.5 roller rockers. Hurricane aluminum hi-rise intake with 2" spacer. Mighty Demon 825 CFM carb with 1:1 link and jet extensions. Moroso chrome drop air cleaner. Crane Hi-6 Ignition with adjustable rev limiter (highest output of all boxes at 1,200 millijoules). Accel 300+ spiral spark plug wires. MSD 85551 billet distributor. Timing is set at 15 degrees initial advance and 36 degrees total. Distributor is curved for full advance at low RPM. Curve kit is included if you want to change it. Edelbrock aluminum valve covers Jegs 3.850" stroker oil pan with windage tray and trap door BBK aluminum underdrive pulleys. Holley black high volume fuel pump. Drivetrain: Borg Warner T-5 five speed transmission completely rebuilt less than 500 miles ago with Pro 5.0 short shifter and Hurst T handle. 1LE aluminum drive shaft. Moser Ford 9" specifically made for this car with disc brakes and 11" slotted rotors. It has the big Ford bearings and Moser 35 spline custom alloy axles. Third member is a nodular iron "N" case, 4.71 gears and a Strange F35 full racing spool. Chassis: UMI Performance sub frame connectors, UMI Performance rear trailing arms with poly bushings UMI Performance pan hard bar IROC front wonder bar and rear sway bar. Interior: JVC MP3 FM/CD Sirius ready 4 channel stereo with rear triaxial and front coaxial speakers. Autometer shift light (includes pill kit) IROC 150 MPH gauge cluster Power steering 4 wheel Power disc brakes. Tilt Steering Racing Bucket Seats Racing floor mats (matching) Factory tinted windows Line lock kit (included but currently disconnected). Manual cooling fan switch. Body: All original GM Sheet Metal with no rust and no body filler. Undercoated from the factory. This car has been stored winters and it shows. T-Tops are original and glass (not plastic).
