Description of 1946 Chevrolet 3100 Series

1946 Chevrolet 3100 Series Pickup

Advance-Design was a pickup truck series by Chevrolet, their first major redesign after WWII. Its GMC counterpart was the GMC New Design. It was billed as a larger, stronger, and sleeker design in comparison to the earlier AK Series. First available on Saturday June 28, 1947, these trucks were sold with various minor changes over the years until March 25, 1955, when the Task Force Series trucks replaced the aging Advance-Design model.

A carry over design from pre-WWII known as the Interim Series, patina and hard work would best describe this truck and its past life. With many a dent and ding, a smattering of chipping and paint peeling, and some rust to contend with, we need someone with a caring heart, and penchant for some challenges that are sure to pop up. Look at it as a blank canvas, or a lump of metal that has the roots of cool throughout its bones.

Exterior
Faded green, peeling and some rust beginning on the passenger lower door, it will need to be stripped to get to the bottom of all that could be perfected under that skin of multiple paint jobs. A great grille design which works with the hood, and bullet style headlights with their signals atop. Snazzy running boards and we are in an era where trucks emulated cars, and this one when viewed from the front could very well be one. Final say to the bed which is also in need of restoration, and a band of rust that has formed at the lower gate of this bed.

Interior
A long vinyl bench showing great wear pattern could be kept within restored confines and fit in perfectly. Just a bit of new padding and it would be the star of the interior. Speaking of which the original dash, shifter, knobs are here. A dusty well used rubber floor, and a headliner that was once serving as a linoleum kitchen floor...now THAT's history! Dash has some adhesive that has melted into the instrument panel but has its original art deco charm.

Drivetrain
A 216ci Inline 6-cylinder with a 1-barrel carburetor feeding it, and a 3-speed manual transmission behind is all in non-running condition. The engine will turn over but will not run. The rear end sports 4.11 gears to put power to the ground. Noted is that the left rear wheel is locked up, a frozen wheel cylinder or drum brake hardware the most likely culprit.

We could not look underneath or give it the driving once over; however, it is a diamond in the rough, with its neat design borrowing heavily from the cars of the era. A classic that needs your input on the final outcome whatever it may be. You have 3 wishes, what would they be?!
