Description of 1954 Chevrolet Other Pickups 5-window |
This ½ ton 5-window 3100 pickup is largely original, including a well-maintained 235 straight-six engine and rebuilt 4-on-the-floor transmission. It runs great. Updates I know about are: ·Conversion to 12 volts ·Rear-end replacement for a more highway-friendly ratio ·Change from closed to open driveline configuration for easier maintenance ·Radio replaced by (low-end) Craig cassette deck and speakers. Other gauges areoriginal ·After-market turn indicator installed ·Recent top-grade paint job (original color was gray) The cab upholstery is original, as is the sound and solid wooden bed. It's lived in my carport for the twenty years I've owned it and been put to light duty: runs to the dump, carrying firewood, moving friends, a little construction. The speedometer was replaced recently, so the odometer reading of roughly 57,000 is meaningless.I've probably racked up 3-4,000 miles in twenty years, and don't know details of its history before that. It cruises well in town and on the highway. In tight spaces, the lack of power steering calls for some muscle. Recently the gas gauge hasn't been reliable. I don't see this truck winning top prizes at a big show anytime soon. The prize I get whenever I'm out and about is a steady stream of thumbs-up and knowing smiles |
