Description of 1968 Chevrolet Corvette convertible |
Up for auction is this 1968 Chevrolet Corvette convertible, which was built in a stunning, & quite rare, hi-performance combination. One year only code 992 Corvette Bronze code 425 Dark Orange interior its numbers matching L79 327/350hp optional grumpy idling & high revving engineFactory installed M20 wide ratio Muncie 4 speed transmission3.55 posi rear endTinted glassAm/Fm radioWheel coversManual 4 wheel disc brakesManual steering box This car has always been meticulously maintained, stored, well cared for, & has extensive maintenance records, including but not limited to, its only engine rebuild, its only repaint, new top, & also the original Corvette order form tank sticker/build sheet documenting its history & authenticity back to when it was originally built in late 1967. Firstly, this car is nearly 52 years old, holds itself quite well, & has absolutely nothing to hide. That being said, The car is largely original, aside from a repaint, including the entire born with driveline, hoses, clamps, ignition, lines, interior, chrome, brightwork, glass, etc which are showing their age, however still in remarkable condition for what they are. The carpet is surprisingly nice, and original as well, but was dyed black over the original orange color many years ago due to not being able to find the correct orange dye at the time. The convertible top frame is original and quite nice, top upholstery is not original & was replaced. It is in good shape, near perfect, but will need to have some adjustments made, as it mostly stays down unless in long term storage, which has caused some shrinkage. I will include a good roadster hardtop not born with this car, but salvaged from another Corvette if interested, & reserve is met, or best offer is accepted. Also, the car currently has a re worked quadra jet carburetor installed, but the original numbers matching carb will be included with the sale. The body has never been hit, is very straight, has nice fitment, & its only repaint is nearly 30 years old now. It still shows well with a deep, gorgeous, shiny luster, but does have typical blemishes with some age & patina, including small rock chips, & some minor paint cracking that is only noticeable when looking very closely. Frame is untouched and has had zero rust ever. The engine runs exceptional, exhaust sings a beautiful crisp note from idle, all the way through the power-band in any gear, the born with Muncie wide ratio M20 transmission shifts great. The clutch assembly has been replaced. The 4 wheel manual disc brake system has also been gone through, which stops the car straight and true. The car is an absolute joy to drive! This car handles great, operates as it should, runs very strong, & is very fast! You can't help but admire her sexy lines, when looking at the car from any angle, or while driving at any speed, or in any gear, at any RPM. Especially when you stand on it and listen to the whole combination working in unison, to propel her down any road. It will literally really make you blush & smile. She still Gets attention & thumbs up everywhere she goes. All of The newer parts and refreshments all have very low miles. The car is freshly tuned, with new AC Delco plugs, wires, points, belts, etc; All fluids & filters are fresh & up to date as well. The car runs like a champ on premium pump gas, without any issues overheating in traffic, fouling plugs, leaks, etc: All lights, wipers, heater, and gauges (with exception of the original clock) work properly, including the original tachometer driven by the original distributor. I've included pictures at different angles, and lighting conditions, to show exactly what is to be expected of looking at this thoroughbred vehicle, at any time of day. (Tends to change color & appearance with different variations & types of light) Overall, my humbly honest opinion is that the car is at the very least, above average condition, and is a quality collector car investment, especially at this time, & fair market price. However, You be the judge. I feel this particular car and it's history, documentation, & condition speak for themselves, separating it among the many other corvettes available. It is NOT a NCRS Top flight award winner, but more of a very original & amazing survivor type vehicle, that has aged particularly well, while many others like it have been completely ravaged. The value of these type of cars is only raising everyday. It is truly a one of a kind time capsule, and is like going back to 1968 every time you enter the cockpit. I do have a short walk around video of the car running & driving, which I can share through messaging to those seriously interested. Of note, I Truly hate to see this car go. However, due to certain personal circumstances, this rare & beautiful piece of Corvette history is being made available, to be treasured by a proud new owner. I have done my best to accurately & honestly describe this vehicle. Serious inquires only, Please feel free to ask any questions to ensure confidence with the purchase, as there will be no credit back, or buyer remorse. I also encourage any bidder to ask any questions, & or make any inspections in person, or to use a vehicle inspection service through Ebay prior to bidding, as the car is being sold as-is, where-is, with no warranties, expressed, implied, included, or otherwise. I reserve the right to end the auction at anytime, as the car is for sale locally as well. I have added another image to this listing, after registering the car to the C3 Corvette registry. As it appears to be approximately 1 of only 18 cars built & equipped with the exact combination of options, in which this car was ordered & manufactured wit, further documenting & verifying it's rarity. It may be hard finding another quite like it. Again, please feel free to ask any questions. Thanks for looking & Happy Bidding! |
