Description of 1986 Chevrolet C/K Pickup 3500 Duramax Conversion K30 Crew Cab 3+3 |
Up for sale is this one-of-a-kind 1986 Crew Cab K30 Chevrolet Custom Deluxe 4x4. Wearing its original sheetmetal, this Custom Deluxe would be cool & unique enough in its original Air Force patina...But this is no ordinary Square body chev, this truck has traveled through time and received a DURAMAX diesel & Allison transmisison heart transplant, making this truck as powerful, reliable and efficient as its late model relatives. Before digging into the conversion specs, lets get into the truck. This truck is a true original K30, 1 ton 4x4. As these trucks near 40+ years old, it is getting harder to find seemingly original, unmolested "core" trucks to start with. This crew cab wears its original sheet metal, original frame and even the born with transfer case and axles. These trucks were purchased and used by the Air Force, and are as "base" model as it gets. No A/C, manual windows/locks, not even a radio! The front and rear seats have been recovered and the interior is in nice shape. The truck does have power steering and brakes of course, with front discs and rear drums. The truck has a Dana 60 front axle and full float Corporate 14 bolt with 4.10 gear ratio. Splitting the power between the two is a NP205 transfer case. The body is very solid & clean, but does have 35 years worth of dings/scratches/imperfections as to be expected. The body is in great solid shape, with rust free body panels and floor pans mostly throughout, it is one of the cleaner crew cabs I've owned. There are 2-3 small areas that have started to rust near the rocker panels, bottom of cab structure. This truck has not received a restoration or "frame off" treatment, as it was built to maintain its original patina and cleanliness, all while retaining the "old school" military theme! The truck received most of its conversion parts through Precision Fabrication Plus, who has risen as the premier Duramax diesel re-power source for these 73-87 GM trucks. Dubbed as the "SquareMax" components, the craftsmanship, attention to detail and overall quality of PFP parts are simply unmatched. The truck is running a 2005 LLY Duramax/Allison engine and transmission combo with OEM Duramax intercooler and radiator setup. All the Duramax electronics (PCM, TCM, etc.) were used in conjunction with a custom stand-alone harness and OEM throttle by wire. The truck is also sporting a Classic Instruments OEM style electronic gauge cluster. The engine has no major modifications other than an EGR delete, 4in exhaust and 70HP tune setting. The truck has a fresh 6" full leaf spring suspension lift kit with Off Road Designs crossover steering upgrade, new steering gearbox and custom extended front shackles to accommodate the diesel. The truck was then finished off with brand new Asanti Offroad 22x12 wheels and LT375/45R22 Nitto Trail Grappler M/T tires (35x15.50x22). This truck runs and drives great, and tows well with a new Draw-Tite class V receiver hitch and Tekonsha brake controller. Truck/Build specs:
* Precision Fabrication Plus RDP Xtreme Engine Mounts * Precision Fabrication Plus Allison to NP205 Adapter * Precision Fabrication Plus 29 spline NP205 input shaft and mating coupler * Classic Instruments Gauge Cluster * EGR Delete, 70hp performance tune * Fully custom 4" exhaust (downpipe back) with axle dump (6" tip) * Fully restored NP205 transfer case with custom machined rear output VSS sensor location and installed ABS tone ring * Complete 6" full spring lift kit (4x springs, shocks, braided brake lines, new bushings) * Custom front extended leaf spring shackles * ORD Crossover steering kit with new 2WD steering gearbox * 22x12 Asanti Offroad Titanium wheels with 375/45R22 Nitto Trail Grappler Tires (35" x 15.5 x 22) * Truck is very solid and retains all of its original sheetmetal. The fenders have not been cut, and the floor/firewall was not modified for the conversion. * Brand new Draw Tite Class 5 receiver hitch with Tekonsha brake controller. As it sits, this truck is very reliable, daily driven and very tow-worthy. I've put about 4,800 miles on the truck since completion this summer and it is a head turner! Pulls trailers and handles load no problem! The truck has its little areas for improvement here and there, which the next owner can help elevate this truck to the "next level!" I currently have my eyes set on a new project, and it would require freeing up some space and money. As you can imagine, these conversions require thousands to reach a "turn-key" status, not to mention the hundreds of hours of time, energy and finding a worthy square body candidate. I have more invested into this truck than my asking price, and still may decide to keep it. Feel free to message me with any inquiries or questions! Thank you! It is a novelty motorcycle, built to follow the military patina theme and is available for sale. It runs and moves but was mainly used in car shows with the truck.
