Description of 1971 Chevrolet Camaro |
For sale, a 1971 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS, mostly restored or rebuilt. Car is equipped with a 5.7 Liter (350) V8 with a rebuilt Quadrajet 4-bbl carburetor. The carb has been updated to a newer model with an electric choke. The ignition has been replaced with a GM electronic system. It has a new HEI distributor, plug wires, and so on. I don’t believe the motor is the original engine. I have the original points-type distributor and Quadrajet carb if the new owner wants them. The transmission has been replaced with a rebuilt 700R4 4-speed automatic. Its lock-up torque converter is set up with a kit from Bowtie Overdrives that automatically locks up the converter whenever the transmission shifts into 4th gear. The set up includes a GM brake light/cruise control switch that disengages the converter if the brake pedal is depressed. The system is very trouble free, completely automatic, and works without a computer. Also from Bowtie Overdrives is a kit to connect the 700R4 transmission to the original horseshoe shifter in the center console. Rear axle has a 3.73 ratio. This car actually gets decent gas mileage now – about 26 mpg on the highway. Most of the air conditioning components under the hood were replaced with a Classic Air system. It has a newer style compressor, a new condensor, dryer, and hoses. It has the R134a refrigerant and works pretty well. The car had a lot of body work done and was repainted yellow and black about 9 years ago (I believe the original color was Burnt Orange). It has been driven quite a bit in the meantime so the paint is not perfect anymore. You can find rock chips close to the wheels, and there are a few chips from door dings that other people have left on it in parking lots. Still, it looks pretty good though. All of the weatherstripping was replaced when the car was painted, but the back of the weatherstripping on the driver’s side door has torn a bit. The wheels and tires were replaced last summer with a set of 17” American Racing Torq Thrust polished aluminum wheels, and 225/50 ZR-17 BF Goodrich Comp 2 TA Radials. It also got news brakes and shocks about 3 months ago. I have the original 14” wheels and tires if the new owner wants them. The beauty rings are in decent shape but the center caps are gone. Most of the interior is new. New seat covers, carpet, door panels, sail panels, headliner, dashboard, etc. 150 mph speedo was replaced recently after the old one quit working. It has a Kenwood CD reciever and a set of Infinity speakers; a pair of 4” speakers in the dash where the original AM radio speaker used to be, and a pair of 6x9’s in the back. The original front seat belts have been replaced with three point retractable ones. Buyer is responsible for shipping! Thanks for looking |
