Description of 1991 Jeep CJ |
It's time to part with my Jeep CYJ Stroker Monster. In typical Jeep fashion. the year depends on the part. It's mostly an 83-86 CJ7. but there's some 91-95 YJ thrown in. It's titled as a 1991 Wrangler Renegade. which is what I started with. After I got going on a frame-off restoration / rebuild. I ended up switching to a CJ7 frame that was in great shape. Everything got torn down and sandblasted clean. then painted with Chassis Saver to keep the rust at bay. Here's the breakdown:Frame: ~83 Jeep CJ7. with 2" receiver on the backBody: Fiberglass tub. fenders. and hood. steel grill. Tub is high quality- very stout. New black carpeting. Full soft doors. Engine: 4. 7L inline 6 stroker. It was a 4. 0 that was totally torn down. tanked. checked for cracks. bored . 030 over. and rebuilt using the crank and rods from a 4. 2 (258) Jeep engine. The head was rebuilt also and port-matched. I used a 2000+ U-style intake for better flow. and stepped-up injectors to provide plenty of fuel. Electric fuel pump. New all-aluminum radiator. Cam break-in additive was used. Break-in oil change was very clean. Transmission: Rebuilt AX-15 5 speed. with new seals. most bearings. and syncros. New clutch. Transfer Case: Dana 300. fully rebuilt. Front Axle: Wide-track Dana 30 with new ball joints. new bearings. brake calipers. brake pads and rotors with a stainless dust shield. 3. 73 gearsRear Axle: Dana 44 from an '86 CJ with 3. 73 gears and a Torsen-style limited slip. All new brake parts and bearings. Interior/ electronics: factory '91 YJ Wrangler with custom paint. After market radio. Sound bar. Matching front and rear seats. Wheels & Tires: 31" all-terrains on new 15" alloys. Lots of tread left. This was a couple-year project for me. and I drove it a couple years once I got it done. but the time has come for it to move to a new home. Everything I listed as new has 4. 00 miles on it- I drove it a couple years. I've rebuilt a few Jeep engines and transmissions before. You could hop in and drive this to California and back if you wanted to. The engine is a beast. It runs very smoothly and quietly. but it pulls strong. The extra stroke really shows. and 3. 73 gears give it some extra oomph. It has been driven responsibly- mostly back and forth to work. I built the stroker because I wanted to. but I don't use the extra power. I hate to see it go. but it's not the most toddler-friendly vehicle out there. and I've got another project to work on. The Jeep is located just south of Cleveland. Ohio. a stone's throw from I-77 and I-480. On Mar-16-15 at 14:20:28 PDT. seller added the following information: Here are a couple things I forgot to mention:The gas gauge is a little wonky. The Jeep has a 20 gallon CJ poly tank in it. with a new sending unit. The sending unit is connected to the YJ gauge. When full the gauge reads E. As the tank empties. the gauge moves toward 1/2. I think the wires are crossed but I haven't dug into it. The shocks and steering stabilizer are new too. as are the poly bushings used in all the usual places. Most of the hardware is stainless with anti-seize to prevent rusting together and galling. |
