1971 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible C3 Numbers Matching

1971 Corvette Convertible.Please read the attached Hemmings Classic Car article, it does a better job than I willrepresenting the car. One thing that is wrong- this car Does have powersteering.

I have had it about 2years and during my tenure I have done the timing chain, replaced the tires(old were flat spotted), done the valve seals (which really helped a lot) andshifter bushings- fixed the radio and made sure all the gauges work (except theclock- those just run down the battery). This car runs REMARKABLY well. It is smooth (for a Vette) strong (for a1971) and reliable. It can be taken onhundreds of mile long trips and without a worry. It has been an absolutepleasure to own and drive. It does notreally leak anything and uses about a quart of oil every 1500 miles, probablywithin spec for its day. This car is like an old comfortable leatherjacket.

My problem is that my friend just gave me the correctsidepipes for it. I like sidepipes, Iwant sidepipes- but all of my friends are telling me not to put them on thiscar. It is too original and unmolested –blah blah, blah.

So anyhow –I will put it out on ebay and see – and if no onewants it more than I did- poof- On Go The Sidepipes!

Whats wrong with it?....windshield wipers are erratic. Sometimes the tray moves and they work fine,sometimes it doesn’t. I changed thevacuum valve twice and then I put rainex on and don’t drive it in therain. The windshield washer does notwork either. This is a very nice car butit IS an unrestored Survivor Car- the paint is from 1971, the seats are from1971, The roof is from 1971… the car isfrom 1971.
