Description of 1983 Chevrolet G20 Van |
Up for sale is a 1983 Chevrolet G10 van. For some reason Ebay only has a listing option for a G20 van, but this is a G10. At any rate, the van is in good shape. Here is the TL:DR version, it runs and drives well, looks good, no rust, clean title, it is ready for your vision to customize. The story behind it is, I bought it with a bad transmission. A guy had bought it off an elderly gentleman who had it in a garage for 20 years. The old transmission had a leak and it broke down on the side of the road. I rescued it from the middle of nowhere and towed it home. Then I went to the pick and pull and found a 1990 van that got crunched in the rear and pulled the 700r4 out of it and swapped it into this van. The odometer on that van read 98k. Once I got it driving I had to replace the fuel pump as it was leaking a bit, and the brake master cylinder. Now it runs and drives and stops quite well. Most all the electrical things work; headlights, turn signals, brake lights, blower, wipers, cruise control. It does have air conditioning, but the clutch on the compressor is broken and there is no belt on it. But all the components are there and it wouldn't be too hard to get operational if you choose to do so. I stained the wood paneling on the interior and put down some insulation with laminate flooring. I did not bolt down the rear bench seat nor bolt down the table mount just in case you don't want those things and you want to do something custom. I love old vans, they have style and flair to them. Especially this one. the metallic brown flake paint with the gold graphics on this is just awesome. I go mountain biking a lot and having a van is great. In was planning on keeping this and making it the ultimate mountain bike road trip vehicle, but I live in California and the smog laws here are moronic. I think this van will pass smog no problem, but I do not want to work on that engine with all that smog stuff on it. I have never seen so much garbage on an engine. The good news is that underneath all that junk is a standard small block Chevy. All someone has to do is get a standard 4bbl intake, a standard 4bbl carb or throttle body FI, and some headers and you will have a strong, easy to work on and maintain engine. The engine has good compression, about 160-170 psi on all cylinders. The transmission shifts well, brakes work well. The doors shut easy, no need to slam them, basically it is a good, solid, rust free van that I wish I could keep and modify. The noticeable problems for sure are: Radio doesn't work, AC is there but non operative (heater blows warm tho) oil pressure gauge doesn't work (probably just the sending unit is bad) tires have good tread but are cracked and should be replaced, no spare tire, and the knob to lock the sliding door is broken. It works and you can lock it, but you have to do it from outside with the key. All minor stuff in my opinion. If you want to go Vannin or live the vanlife in style, and for much cheaper than a Sprinter van, this is your ticket. It has a normal 4 gang electrical outlet inside that you can run an extension cord to and then run a refrigerator or whatever appliance you want. It is perfect for a campground or in someones driveway. The front chairs swivel around to face the back, you can mount the table and bench seat if you want, or build a bed. It is a blank canvas for whatever you desire. I took a video of me out on a drive, check it out here:https://youtu.be/SBFoAsnT_Dc Van is no reserve, it is located in Sacramento CA. I'm happy to coordinate with you to get it to you, but shipping will be your responsibility. If you live in CA and plan on registering it in CA then I will smog it for you as that is the sellers responsibility. If you have any questions please ask away. Good luck! |
