Description of 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS |
It took 9 months of negotiations to buy this car. I first seen it at a car show right here at Volo. The fit and finish was obviously outstanding. Then I learned about the crate 427, 5-speed and posi and I really wanted it. It has original trim tag that verifies this was born a real SS 4-speed car. EXTERIOR: Outstanding fit and finish. All new sheet metal, zero rust or damage. They did an amazing job, it is laser straight. The gaps are precision fit. The paint is polished out like a red mirror, no matter where you look you could read a book in the reflection. The nose stripe is smooth to the touch. The features include front and rear spoilers. The exterior trim has been replaced. Upfront the bumper and grill look new. The grills on the SS hood are new. New 427 cross flag emblems on the fenders. The stainless trim, wiper arms, mirrors, door handles are new. In back the bumper, tail lights, SS gas cap have all been replaced. It has the blacked out SS tail panel. The windshield, door glass and rear window have been replaced. All the window seals and weatherstrips are new. The door jambs are painted beautifully, hardware and latches are detailed, sill plates are new. Rolls on a set of 17 inch chrome American Racing wheels. Raptor performance tires, bigger in back. INTERIOR: New carpet on the floor, embroidered floormats. Has all of it's original GM seat belts. Factory center console is excellent and there's a Hurst 5-speed shifter sticking out of it. The metal is painted glossy, dash pad is new. Heater controls, trim, knobs, instrument bezel all look new. Chrome trim on the steering wheel is new. It has a Super Tach mounted on the column and 3 gauges mounted neatly below the dash. The seats have been reupholstered. All the trim is excellent, the kick panels, seat backs, rear window trim etc. Above, the headliner was replaced, dome light works, visors and mirror are new. Door panels and armrests look new. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: $12,300 GM crate motor 427 with 380 horsepower and 390 lbs of torque. All the specs can be found online. GM designed it with the original L-88 in mind. GM crate motors come fully assembled ready to drop in. The most reliable performance engine you can put in a car in my opinion. It has aluminum heads, intake and water pump. A Holley dual feed carb is on top and an HEI ignition system. Long tube headers let the exhaust out. It has power steering and power brakes. Dressed up with real nice, tall aluminum valve covers. Chrome air cleaner, alternator and bracket. It has a remote vacuum pump to compensate for the performance cam. The steering box and lines look new. The master cylinder, lines and junction looks new. Fan shroud is replaced, battery is bolted down, everything is neat and orderly. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Real nice, clean metal with a neatly applied gray and white spatter finish. It has a rubber trunk mat that fits nicely and a matching tire cover over the spare. Bottom of the trunk lid and jamb are painted real slick. Has new weatherstrip. There is also a new $350 car cover in the box. UNDERSIDE: Bottom of the motor has an extra capacity oil pan, new starter. New Tremec 5-speed trans and of course all new related components like clutch, shift linkage and bell housing. New drive shaft goes back to a rebuilt 12 bolt rear end that has 3.73 posi and a chrome cover. It has frame connectors tying the front to the back. In back it has Caltrac tubular traction bars and new shocks. The brakes have been redone, it has new emergency brake cables and discs up front with drilled and slotted rotors. It has a fat Flowmaster exhaust system. New fuel system- the tank, straps, sending unit. I drove it home one night. It is definitely a muscle car! It rumbles, it's responsive a d looks incredible. It actually cruises comfortably and reliably too. High quality, hot Camaro. I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for virtually every car for about the last 30 years now.
