Description of 1955 Chevrolet Other Pickups Big Window

This frame-off restored 1955 Chevrolet 3100 Big Window pickup is one of those builds where you can see the attention to detail in every single component. Not merely assembled, but rather built with an eye towards making even the little stuff look right, it's gorgeous to look at and wonderful to drive. Combined with a great color combination and luxurious interior, it makes for a slick hauler that can take home trophies or cruise cross-country equally well.

This truck goes way beyond simple work-truck hauler, and even back in the '50s, Chevy revolutionized the industry with the crazy idea that workmen wanted attractive vehicles, too. So while a lot of them were driven right into the ground, this handsome pickup received a no-holds-barred rejuvenation that includes a few skillful custom bits and a lot of professional work to make it smooth and shiny. Fit and finish are quite good overall, and the bespoke Burnt Orange Metallic over Cream paint was finished less than 6k miles ago and is a perfect update on the 1950s vibe these Task Force series trucks perfected in the later part of the decade. A bright chrome grille was fitted up front, a smoothed tailgate anchors the rear, and a custom pinstripe separates the two contrasting colors - who can argue with how cool this Big Window looks? The windows were given a dark tint to accentuate the street rod stance, and the bed was fully rebuilt with dark varnished wood, polished stainless rub rails, and a cool built-in flush filler cap for the gas tank underneath. Add in smooth 1-piece chrome bumpers, chrome caps tucked into the bed rails, and old-school street-rod taillights on either side of the tailgate, and you have a truck that creates a stir everywhere it goes.

With the original truck sporting plain vinyl, rubber, and steel interior materials, the custom makeover inside this Chevy gives it a much softer, friendlier demeanor. A reshaped and very comfortable bench seat has been wrapped in custom foam and smooth, Saddle Tan upholstery, which uses a period pleated and rolled pattern to replicate a 1950s vibe. Custom dark tan carpets look great and help control noise and heat and the door panels are properly finished with custom armrests and chrome hardware, not just bare steel. The dashboard, even when it was stock, was striking in a pickup truck and has now been smoothed and refined, with the original gauge cluster replaced by a trick Shark setup that really takes the interior up a notch. You'll also not custom tricks like speakers encases in fabricated housings built into the kick panels, a custom headliner, a digital AM/FM/AUX/Satellite stereo system, and a wood-rimmed billet steering wheel mounted atop a polished tilt column. A Vintage A/C unit is very cleverly hidden using tucked-away vents for a smooth look on the painted dash, and power windows and seatbelts round out the options list. As you can see, no detail was left to chance inside, and the results speak for themselves.

The engine is a powerful 5.3L V8, which was borrowed from a 2002 GM truck, fully rebuilt with an Edelbrock carb on top, and is now making big horsepower and torque for this slick-built truck. From the shaved and smoothed firewall to the fully finished inner fenders, the engine bay was obviously built for show, and everything was either painted, polished, or plated before it was installed. Wiring has been neatly organized and there's a big aluminum radiator up front to keep things cool. Backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and a heavy-duty 12-bolt rear with relatively friendly gears inside, it's a superlative highway cruiser. Up front there's a modern front clip with power disc brakes and power steering swapped-in from a late-model Corvette, and a custom dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers sounds suitably performance-oriented. The stance is just about perfect, with a lot of the credit going to the polished US Mag wheels and 235/55/17 performance radials all around.

Dressed to impress and turn heads, this beautifully built and nicely documented (build and maintenance receipts included) truck delivers in every sense of the word. Call today!
